David McWilliam is a superb teacher. After a lifetime of playing classical music I wanted to transition to playing jazz, and David is helping me along this amazing journey. This is no mean feat given my age and bad habits, but he is endlessly patient while being tough about sloppy playing. He uses a range of techniques and resources - exam books, basic understanding of jazz scales and arpeggios, sheet music of varying difficulty, lead sheets and chord symbols/progressions, and how to play in a band. This means that I can now play a range of jazz solos and know how to improvise. I still have a long way to go, but David is warm, friendly and totally encouraging when I despair. I can't imagine life without my lessons. Absolutely to be recommended.

David’s been my teacher for a couple of years now and he’s always been a fantastic and encouraging teacher. I’ve learnt a lot from him and developed my skills. I 100% recommend him to anyone looking to start or continue piano :)

David has been my son’s teacher for 9 years and what an excellent 9 years they have been. My son is only at Diploma level now because of the consistently great teaching he has had over the years. Not only that, David has sorted all of the festivals and exams he has entered in that time, often being there to help him on the day. His communication with us has always been wonderful and we have always had the most thorough and timely responses from him. When my son had a wobble about continuing after grade 5, David was so patient and understanding, which helped Alex reach his own decision. I have no doubt, even in the distant future, Alex will look back on David as one of the best teachers he’s ever had. We have been so lucky to have him in our lives.

David McWilliam has taught my children piano over a period of 12 years and is equally at ease teaching young children and young adults. He is a patient and inspirational teacher of both piano playing and theory of music. He sets high standards at exam level yet inspires a love of piano by encouraging pupils to find the style of music they enjoy. He uses a wide range of innovative methods and an element of fun to encourage practise of techniques and sight reading. I would have no hesitation in recommending David as an excellent and highly professional piano teacher.

David is an exceptional piano teacher. He has taught me for 5 years and has helped me achieve distinctions in many of my grades, including Grade 8, but has also shaped me into a confident musician overall. He is warm and friendly and lessons with him are exciting and good fun, but not without serious piano playing! David himself is very experienced and professional, and always has an answer to musical questions. His teaching is unique with lots of great approaches, and he often turns what can sometimes be pretty tedious practice into something really enjoyable! He is very attentive to your playing and always offers his expertise and support. Aside from grades, David introduced me to lots of wider repertoire, some of which still remains my favourite. This is one of the great things about David- he REALLY immerses you into the world of music and makes you curious as to what is out there. David also encouraged me to take part in many piano festivals such as Solihull, Birmingham and Northfield, which have all been super experiences for gaining confidence in my performing. I also owe him many thanks for having recently been offered a place at a conservatoire and I could never have done it without David and his support. I would strongly recommend David for anyone interested in piano lessons.

David McWilliam has taught all 6 of our children, 5 of whom are boys so he has become a fixture for our family for the last 15 years! David is extremely patient and kind but very firm and always gets the best out of all of the children even through their difficult teenage years when they'd rather be doing something else! He keeps their interest using lots of variety to help their practice and by them choosing music they enjoy playing within their capability. They have all attained Grade 5 in piano and beyond but they have all retained a love of music and the ability to adapt their piano skills to other instruments and confidence to perform.

David is an exceptional piano teacher, helping me to achieve a distinction in my Grade 8. He is not just about drilling through the grades, however. He has helped me to improve as a pianist but also as a musician: he helped me to improve in a range of musical aspects, for example music theory, aural skills and listening skills. With years of experience, you can expect him to be very professional in his approach to teaching. David is also an extremely friendly person and it has been an absolute pleasure to work with him. I would strongly recommend his teaching lessons.

David McWilliam is a fantastic teacher and pianist, he has years of experience and an interesting, modern approach to teaching. He combines technology with traditional learning methods and has a wonderful wide range of music genres if you don't just want to work through the grades. He is patient, friendly and very professional which makes you feel confident in lessons and in your learning ability. I would strongly recommend David for lessons - an excellent learning investment!
