Around 4 years ago I had a terrible experience with David Lloyd where is was contacted around 3x a day by one of the sales team before I had even had a chance to even discuss things with my partner which completely scared me off from signing up. I contacted David Lloyd Southend to enquire regarding prices and made it very clear from the start “I don’t want to be contacted at all” and even explained my prior experience and was very hesitant to give contact details. Poppy informed me her shift would be ending in 30 mins so I said I would contact her in the morning after I had discussed things with my partner. That particular night I had a shift until 4am and understandably was going to sleep in later than usual, guess who woke me up at 10.30 with a sales call…Poppy. It seems like my wishes had been completely disregarded because getting commission is more important than upsetting potential new customers. Even though I was completely frustrated I stayed very polite and booked to come in on Monday. Today is Sunday bank holiday and I would like to know why yet again I am receiving more phone calls to see if I am coming in on Monday even though I have booked an appointment. Me and my girlfriend were completely serious about signing up and paying the whole amount upfront for a discount but after this experience we have chosen to stay with our current gym. £3000 lost in custom because Poppy couldn’t respect our wishes.

Always busy, so sometimes the problem is queuing for a towel. Seen other centres have an automatic dispenser, so will cross fingers for that. Staff are always pleasant and there is a good range of activities available. Only thing not giving 5 stars is the price.
