If we could give 0 stars we would. We spoke to a Max on a few occasions- he was very quick to respond to messages and seemed very helpful. We ended up purchasing 13 pleached magnolia trees. We arranged a delivery date but the trees were not delivered. We phoned and were told that there was an issue with delivery and it would happen the following week. When this day arrived delivery did not take place. We tried to phone Max numerous times and we were ignored. When my husband rang from his unrecognised number he did pick up and we were told there was an issue again with delivery. Delivery failed for a third time and we were ignored entirely. Eventually, I phoned the office number on repeat until the phone was picked up, which was about 45 minutes of constant ringing. David answered and was extremely rude, making me feel I was being unreasonable for being concerned and angry they had failed delivery on three occasions and actively ignored us. I demanded a refund to which was initially refused until I said I would involve solicitors. We did eventually receive our refund but the whole process seemed borderline criminal. I don’t think they even had the trees they were promising to plant. I am unsure if the new website has been taken over by new ownership but I would stay clear of this company at all costs if not.

[update] *** I have been waiting to submit a dispute claim with my credit card company since writing this and have now been advised by the relevant solicitors that the company is being liquidated and wound up. I would be exceptionally wary of engaging the prior Directors of this business in future due to their behaviour while the business was clearly in difficulty. *** We ordered four 120-150cm Quercus ilex feathered hedge plants on the 18 February 2023. I understood these are large items that need to be prepared, and thought a three or four week wait was reasonable. I emailed on the 13 March to enquire about a delivery date as I wanted to ensure we were available for delivery. I received a reply saying that DFG were experiencing delays with their suppliers. Another two weeks passed with no communication from David Fairley Gardens, and I emailed again on 1 April 2023, requesting a firm delivery date of the order. As I wished to ensure this hedging was planted with time to get somewhat established before the peak of summer heat, I stated that unless there was a known delivery date, I wanted the order cancelled and refunded, so that I could source the hedging elsewhere. David Fairley Gardens replied on 3 April 2023 stating that my order was to be delivered on the 24 April 2023, between 2pm and 4pm. The relative promptness and nature of this reply following my email requesting cancellation of the order unless a delivery date was known made me quite suspicious, but I gave benefit of the doubt. The 24 April 2023 came, and went, with no order being delivered and no explanation or apology from David Fairley Gardens. I have since emailed twice, and have had no response or contact from David Fairley Gardens. Clearly there are a number of issues here. Firstly, David Fairley Gardens offering items for sale which they do not have in stock, nor do they know if and when they’ll have them in stock. Recognising the unmitigated disaster that is Brexit, I am willing to be very sympathetic to retailers suffering the impacts. Secondly, David Fairly Gardens made a promise of delivery which I am almost entirely certain they never intended to meet, in order to keep hold of my money. I strongly suspect David Fairly Gardens knowingly lied to me. [Edit - I now know they did lie to me, as obviously their suppliers were obviously not providing them with stock.] Thirdly, David Fairly Gardens has failed to deliver the promised goods, and despite my attempts to illicit a response from them, have failed to refund my money or indeed even respond to me, and the entire episode - particularly lying about a delivery date - it felt very much like Fraud by Misrepresentation.

Ordered a small tree which failed to arrive as promised after 3 weeks, following which they have not replied to emails and do not answer the phone. Its been 6 weeks now and I am in the process of trying to get my money back. Stay away. I suspect they may have ceased trading as I can’t believe a functioning business would behave this way.

Ordered trees that were listed as in stock. After payment turns out were not in stock. Delivery finally arranged 2months later. No show on delivery day. 2 weeks of no response to multiple emails and phone messages since. Now not accepting voicemail. Website offline. Have had to resort to opening a case with credit card company to try and retrieve the 2k. Has this company gone bust? Very poor experience, still not resolved

Absolutely shocking business. Do not use! Placed an order on 13th March. I was promised a delivery within 3 weeks as the tree was in stock when ordered (the tree was needed to plant for a customer beginning of April). We were let down with no communication. When I eventually managed to get through the delivery team were going to get back to me with a date. They did and this was two weeks later! The morning of the new arranged date I get an email advising we won't receive the order as the driver called in sick! Yet again I have had yo rearrange our customer and over 7 days later I can't get hold of anyone via phone or email. It's as if they have disappeared off the face of the planet and we are £300 out of pocket with a very angry customer. I'm hoping to claim our money back but not hopeful and a massive headache for more reasons than one!

Really awful experience with this company! Delivery took 9 weeks when I was quoted 3 with continuous false promises of ‘next week’! My request for compensation re the delivery fee was ignored! One of the trees was advertised and stated on my invoice as being 300l, what I received was only 130l! Apparently this was a typo but I would not have purchased this tree had I known this! When I brought this up with David it was met with a dismissive and flippant comment! 3 of the trees that I received were in 250l pots but the root system only took up about a third of this volume! This is well known to be unacceptable in this industry! My complaint to David was ignored! On top of this the trees were badly pruned and their shape was totally different to those advertised! I am a professional garden designer having purchased trees from nurseries all over the world! I certainly will not bother with this company again!

We bought four evergreen oak tree’s from David, and we’re delighted with the service we received. We visited the nursery, and he gave us an overview of the different options. I’d encourage anyone wanting to buy trees like this to go and talk to David about them, as his advice was invaluable. We opted for the planting service as well for peace of mind having spent a lot on the trees. The service was professional and well worth the money. I have confidence that if we have any trouble with the trees in the future, David would be there to help.

I've been using DFG for a couple of years now, and I find the quality of their plants and trees to be excellent. I've had several different tree varieties and many shrubs and plants - all have arrived in great condition and I've recommended him to my neighbours and family who have also been very happy with the plants and service. We always use the planting service which, although pricey, is a lot easier and more convienient than trying to tackle the planting and staking yourself! The delivery / turnaround time to queries and orders can be a little slow and disjointed (sometimes orders and deliveries are split) but this is forgivable seeing that their prices are competitive. I would recommend DFG to anyone, and will continue to use them as long as I have space in my garden!

After extensive research DF provided the trees, quick response, quotes and planting service to make my decision easier. The planting team executed the installation very quickly and the quality of the trees on arrival were fantastic. Max was extremely good to deal with on purchase. Many thanks
