FAQ

What is your approach to drum teaching?

Our approach to drum teaching is personalized and tailored to each student's needs and goals. We believe that every student has their unique learning style and pace, and we strive to adapt our teaching methods to suit them. We focus on building a strong foundation of basic techniques and gradually progress to more advanced concepts and styles.

What is the student to teacher ratio in your classes?

We offer both individual and group lessons, and the student to teacher ratio varies depending on the type of lesson. Our individual lessons are one-on-one, while our group lessons usually have a maximum of four students per class. We believe that a smaller class size ensures that each student receives the appropriate attention and feedback from the teacher.

Do you offer individual or group lessons?

Yes, we offer both individual and group lessons. Our individual lessons are tailored to the specific needs and goals of each student, while our group lessons are focused on developing ensemble skills and musical communication.

How do you track student progress?

We track student progress through regular assessments, goal-setting, and feedback. We keep detailed records of each student's progress and provide constructive feedback at the end of each lesson. We also set short-term and long-term goals with our students to ensure that they are progressing towards their objectives.

What is the experience level of your instructors?

Our instructors are highly experienced and qualified professionals who have years of experience in teaching and performing. They have a deep understanding of various drumming styles and techniques and are passionate about sharing their knowledge with their students. We believe that their expertise and enthusiasm make them excellent teachers who can guide and inspire students of all levels.

David is a brilliant drummer (just watch him live with his band) and teacher. Funk may be his calling, but he's got an incredible depth and wealth of knowledge of all musical genres and is passionate to share and help students develop. As others have commented, one of David's skills is his ability to break down complex concepts or rhythmic sections into easy-to-digest parts which can be developed and layered in time. David has also provided the foundations for me to develop my own ideas which has helped me improve my flow and drumming creativity. In the last 3 years together we've covered a lot of ground, and I feel I've developed hugely as a player both technically and musically. Look him up! As others

David is a brilliant teacher. I was a complete beginner when I started learning drums with him, and even on the first day he had me playing a simple groove. From there, his method of teaching is very organised, well-planned out, and logical, gradually adding more challenging elements, so each step is only a little bit harder than the previous step. We typically rotate between working on stick technique and rudiments, coordination and grooves, and songs. It is the perfect combination. When I started learning, I was having weekly in-person drumming lessons with David in his studio, but, since coronavirus shut down the world, we have now transitioned to online lessons. I have been extremely impressed with how well the online lessons work - they are just as good as studio lessons, and I am progressing at the same rate now as I was in the studio. The only thing I miss about studio lessons is the gorgeous acoustic kit that he has there! To anyone considering lessons with David, but having doubts about online lessons, go for it - David makes them work really well! I would highly recommend David to anyone looking for drumming lessons.

David has been teaching me the drums since the start of lockdown, and has all been done fantastically over Zoom. The process has been an excellent challenge for both of us (and certainly different not face to face in person), but I've enjoyed making progress, and David has been understanding from the start. Highly recommended.

I couldn't recommend David highly enough as a teacher. His patient, focused approach, and emphasis on technique has improved my playing dramatically in a short period of time. He's able to break down complex concepts in incredibly insightful ways, and I've found his analogies and viewpoint to be invaluable to my understanding of technique and music generally. David has a wealth of information on music and drummers, which he's keen to share - I always leave our sessions with hours worth of ideas and true motivation to practice.

I've been taking lessons with David for nearly 2 years. During this period my playing has gone up from novice to band level. I was taught some very useful hand and foot techniques that allow to play faster. I learned few transcribed songs of my own choice which were later recorded.. yay! In a few words professional friendly and individually tailored approach.
