I delivered my baby 3 weeks ago in the maternity ward at this hospital. I had the most INCREDIBLE delivery! All natural, no drugs, no intervention. It was over in 3 hours and I was back home with a healthy, lovely newborn that afternoon. I want to especially commend the midwives who looked after me. Their professional, compassionate guidance and encouragement gave me the confidence and strength to have a totally natural birth. Without their constant reassurance and encouragement I wouldn't have been able to have such a lovely birth, as I was also alone without my birth partner. They stuck to my birth plan even at times when I wanted to give up. They were gentle and kind but also quick to act and respond when necessary. They respected my wishes and treated me with ultimate kindness and respect, I felt like I had known them forever with the support that they gave. I felt safe and very well supported at my most vulnerable moment. I will never forget and will always look back on my experience here with such joy.

Very poor maternity experience. Whilst midwives are very compassionate, the majority of the doctors lack the time or experience to diagnose or treat any condition that may be slightly more complex than a routine low risk pregnancy. Wife spent an unnecessary amount of time (5 days) on antenatal ward in excruciating pain at 27 weeks - was left waiting days for basic scans and only treated with paracetamol (I realise that this is as much as can be safely recommended during pregnancy but on two occasions even this pain relief took over an hour to be issued when requested). Whilst there, heard complaints from others on the ward that they too were unhappy to be left at the mercy of an overstretched system in which staffing issues determine what level of care patients can expect to receive and scheduled procedures are no more than hopeful and wildly optimistic timing estimations. As widely reported and typical, expect incredibly long waiting times at every stage - from initial consultation and treatment all the way to discharge. Not confident that emergency cases at this hospital will be treated with the care and attention deserved due to funding cuts, which is not specific to this hospital but disheartening widespread and unfortunately does not change what was a poor overall experience.

If I could give 0 star I would. They ask for pay rise when they can’t even do their own job. Doctors in Darlington don’t have clue and say there busy when ward empty misdiagnosis my daughter again for 2nd time joke

My Mum was taken to A and E and the care and attention she received was great. Such great care taken by every member of staff. She is now there as an inpatient and she’s getting the absolute best treatment possible. The staff are truly amazing and are also rushed off their feet. They sometimes don’t get the gratitude they deserve.

Terrible hospital and very unprofessional in the endoscopy unit. Felt quite dirty in there. Basically treated like a piece of meat. I had an awful experience and I would strongly recommend bishop Auckland hospital. The staff are superb there. Such a lovely place.
