I phoned for a price to service my sewing machine. Gave Model number and said there was nothing wrong it hadn't stopped or broken. I just wanted a service. They wouldn't give a price said they had to examine the machine first. I didn't like that. When you take a car for a test/mot there is a set price...if they find anything wrong they tell you that they found something that needs attending to and they give a price for that fault. The same with teeth a check up has a price if they find a bad tooth you get charged. So I personally went elsewhere. I'm not saying that their work is inferior I don't know I didn't use them I don't like open ended cost.

I took in my vintage singer as I just couldn't get it to stitch right and didn't really understand the tension, even after 50 years. I sadly refused a full overall as it was £102. So I bought same from eBay for half that, with fingers crossed. When I saw it the tension was higher than I'd ever tried. So I tried it on my old machine and that's all there was to it. He said the foot controller was regulating speed, but there was nothing wrong when I tried it. If I'd said go ahead, I would never of had the opportunity to test his findings. Sorry - I thought he was a great find - not so sure now 🤔
