Our friends had bought us a Red Letter Day voucher to thank us for a gift we bought them. With fear of a perpetual thank you gift-buying scenario, we cunningly decided to find something that the four of us could do, to break the cycle, and stumbled upon the guided tour offered by Sam from CT Tours in Canterbury. Sam was super responsive to emails, and accommodating. We arranged the tour with Sam in mid-may 2023, not really knowing much about Canterbury. Sam was very insightful, knowledgeable, and engaging. We certainly learnt a lot more than if we had just pottered around the town unguided. There was some fascinating architecture and factlets, that you could easily walk past and ignore if you're not 'in the know'. The pace was easily manageable (you never know if 90 minutes means 'intense hike' or 'stand in one spot' - it was a slow meander). There wasn't any difficult terrain, so it's suitable for buggies and those who might be a bit wobbly (like me and my dodgy ankles, hence why I noticed). Sam's a super friendly chap, and I'd recommend the walking tour.

We arrived in Canterbury on Friday 9th Oct and found a ‘flyer‘ for this company in the Tourist Info/ Beaney Centre. We contacted them and a very short notice (3 1/2 hours later), Sam Hurn agreed to take two of us on a tour. From the beginning he was very informative and engaging, as we strolled around the city. Sam clearly new his stuff and had plenty of informative facts and stories and provided a highly enjoyable tour. We showed up to Canterbury knowing nothing about the town except that there was a nice cathedral and Chaucer stories. Sam did a stellar job filling in tons of blanks. Everything from Roman times to World War 2, we got a good glimpse into the history of the city. Sam was funny, charming, and easily answered all of our questions. He was prompt to respond to our inquiry and met us on short notice.
