Croydon FC play at the Croydon Sports Arena, an athletics stadium, and thus have a large 8 lane running track surrounding the football pitch and separating the viewers from the action on the pitch. The bar is a fair walk from the sole stand. The stand has ample seating for any expected crowd. There is free parking right outside the ground and there is a tram stop just beyond the car park. Usually the match day experience is enjoyable. Well worth a visit.

My local team Croydon FC play at the Arena. The Trams, so named to recognise the local tram lines that surround the ground on two sides, rely on volunteers to run match days. Led by a young and enthusiastic chairman, the Arena has been spruced up and the facilities have improved no end. There is a very professional feel about the place. The clubhouse has also been improved but still has pictures of the famous Croydon FC women's football team that dominated women's football in the 90s adorning its walls, plus photos of previous Croydon FC mens teams. There is a nice terraced area outside the bar that overlooks the pitch. Bar prices are very reasonable - £4 per pint of beer from the local Cronx Brewery. There were 4 on tap the last time I was there. You can take your pint outside and watch the game. Afterwards you can catch up with final scores on the large screen in the main bar area. Should also mention that there is hot food for sale at the ground. A pizza van was there a few weeks ago - the pizzas certainly smelled and looked good and went down well with supporters who purchased them Average crowds are around the 70 mark , with local derbies hitting 100+ spectators. There is a small but committed hard core of fans who are very friendly. They usually congregate behind temporary barriers near the penalty area, cheering The Trams on and gently reminding the ref of how he should run the game - the odd mild swear word may be heard but its all good natured and usually accompanied by laughter. The wit and wisdom of football supporters is ever present. The club deserves to be better supported. The off field activities have expanded. There are regular food bank collections on match days and closer links with the local community are being forged. The Trams now have a very good twitter account and have recently set up an on line merchandise facility, which currently sells scarves, badges and baseball caps with the clubs colours and badge on them - more products may be added. I purchased a scarf on line and it arrived 2 days later so delivery was impressively quick. There are plans to develop the facilities further and off the field things are looking up. On the pitch the club has a very young squad with an equally young manager. Results are currently a little inconsistent but, given time, I'm sure they'll improve. The standard of football is good and Croydon has a committed team that likes to play fast attacking football. All in all it's a good afternoon out, which I'd recommend to locals football supporters and groundhoppers. If you are a Crystal Palace fan and the Eagles don't have a game then get down to the Arena and support a decent non league team. There are friendly supporters and committed volunteers, who really don't get the credit they deserve for the hard work and hours they put in, in order to give the local community a team and facilities to be proud of. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL NON-LEAGUE TEAM! COME ON YOU TRAMS!!
