2 years later, still an interim death certificate? Email after email ignored. Can’t get through on the phone. Joke of a service for bereaved members of the public.

I have just phoned now at 1:35pm and got straight through, with a promise to pass directly to the case officer who will phone me with an update.

Hopeless service, makes you wonder why you pay council tax if they can't even offer the most basic service. It's stressful enough when you have a bereavement, but when the phone lines to the Corners office is only open from 9am-12pm (it says they are open until 4pm on the council site and google, but recorded phone message says until 12pm and you can't leave a message!). They said they would phone me on Tuesday evening, they didnt so phoned in the morning the next day, they said they had not received the report yet and to phone back if i don't hear in the afternoon. So how do I do that when the phone lines are closed! I had a missed call at just after 12 (no message left no contact details), the phone number showed as Croydon council, phoned back and NO option for Coroner! No way for leaving a message and no switchboard! So you get cut off... again. So basically, you can only speak to the Corners office between 9am and 12pm (if you can get through that is at those times) and no way out of these times to talk to anyone! When you desperately want to know why someone has died and the family and friends are waiting and they must have the outcome or some update but no way of finding out, it makes this a truly terrible service!

As a family suffering bereavement of a brother who passed on the 5th October 2022 from a heart attack, this was the findings of the coroner on the 14th October 2022. We are a Scottish based family and immediately started arrangements to have our brother's remains brought back to Scotland to be played to rest. If only it was that easy! Firstly the coroner insisted someone provide photographic ID of our brother before an undertaker could uplift his body. Presumably the coronor having carried out a postmortem and was in possession of all the identity details, and identitifed our brother on the coroners report, might have been under the impression of what exactly? ridiculous situation. We had instructed local Glasgow undertakers to attend the Croydon mortuary and remove our brother but they were told a local undertaker had to deal with that and that they would also obtain a death certificate. That was wrong. A week later they said someone had to travel to London to Croydon to obtain death certificate. Then it was travel to nearest English registrar offices and obtain certificate and send it to Croydon coroners offices. A week later. It is now the 1st of November 2022. At Carlisle registrar offices a family member obtained a death certificate or at least were told one would be forwarded to Croydon coroners offices, no copy was issued to family member. Today at 5.30pm we are told that another copy must be provided for Croydon Coronor's offices from Croydon Burgh Council? Undertakers in Glasgow have now advised us to formulate an official complaint and take this matter up with our MP as they have formed opinion this is not only a disgusting situation it is a deliberate malicious act by Croydon Coroner offices - for whatever reasons that be? Several family members have broken down in sheer frustration and it is entirely heartbreaking.
