Can't recommend Leo highly enough, I had an old acoustic with cracked bracing and uneven frets and he carefully talked me through all the work that needed doing, why the cracks had ocurred and ways to help prevent them happening in the future. The guitar is now amazing to play after a full repair and set up. Thank you!

Leo is fantastic, I has my custom shop Strat and Ibanez Jiva setup and changed from 9s to 10 gauge strings. He levelled all the frets and dressed them and made the action on both guitars perfect for me. I cannot recommend him highly enough, his work is worth every penny. Both guitars are completely different and one is 4x the price of the other, yet both were given exactly the same care and attention to the point where they both feel like they have been worked on by a master of their craft. I don't think I could trust anyone else to work on my guitars now. Not only is he a great luthier, he is also a great person. My partner dropped off my guitars to him and she doesn't play, yet he explained to her what work needed doing in a way that she understood and not in a condescending manner.

I took my PRS Angelus SE acoustic to Leo with a badly warped neck. After trying unsuccessfully to resolve the issue myself with a truss rod adjustment, it was sadly no longer playable. Leo worked his usual magic - refashioning the neck via removing an unfortunate hump and tapering the neck tail down towards the body and also slightly lowering the bridge. It now plays beautifully again! Leo is without doubt a guitar genius!

I had a custom acoustic guitar made by Leo and it is outstanding both in its sound and its workmanship. I was kept up to date with all of the work in progress and asked for my preferences at the relevant points. I highly recommend Crossfield Stringed Instruments, for the quality workmanship, service and advice.

I can vouch for Leo both as a teacher and a luthier. After struggling for a few weeks in the beginning trying to teach myself banjo, I made the wise decision to have some lessons. Leo helped me get the fundamentals right early on, and kept me motivated by teaching me the things that I wanted to learn. Seven years later, I still love the instrument and play almost every day. As a luthier, Leo helped rectify a terrible set up when I bought a new banjo, and he's done general maintenance on my instrument over the years to keep it sounding great.

Being new to the area I did a Google Search and found Crossfield Stringed Instruments. From there I discovered that Leo has a wealth of knowledge on stringed instruments and the craft skills to bring the best out of them. I gave him two of my 15 year old Martin acoustics and he removed all of their fret buzz issues while also lowering the action to give me back better playability than when they left the factory. That level of improvement takes someone at the top of their profession. Finding high quality workmanship can be a tall order today so if you need the best from your instruments Leo can provide it.

I have a stock Yamaha acoustic guitar (FS820) which I’ve been learning on for the better part of nine months now. I love my guitar and as I’ve learnt more about playing the guitar well, I realized that it’s important to have your guitar set up correctly. I had a good email correspondence with Leo and visited his work shop. The workshop itself is very impressive and you can see the skill that Leo has just from other projects that he has on display. Leo recommended adjusting my strings and three of my frets (in addition to fitting a button to the neck for my strap). When I came to pick the guitar up a few days later the difference was really surprising…it felt like a new and better quality instrument. The strings were easier to press and barring cords felt much more comfortable. Leo had also kindly oiled my fretboard and bridge which were both dry, which just rounded things off perfectly. I would have no hesitation in recommending him – he knows his instruments (not just guitar) and is genuinely passionate about the quality of his work. 3rd December 2020 Update I've upgraded to a new Eastman guitar. Even though the guitar was prepared by the shop, it still wasn't set up as well as could be and more over there was a significant level of fret buzz. Leo quickly identified the various issues and with great care and attention adjusted the frets and setup to eliminate the fret buzz. The instrument is now playing beautifully and I feel I'm able to get the the best out of it relative to my own skill. Leo kindly changed by strings too for a better set which was greatly appreciated.
