I’ve been with this practice since I started university for my medical degree 3 years ago. The doctors I have seen over my time here so far have been excellent and very empathetic. They were the first doctors to help take action against towards improving my mental well-being and investigating a gynae problem I had for years and resulted in me having the operation I needed 2 weeks ago. I’ve seen multiple reviews and comments about rude, or patronising reception staff over the years. I’ve been fortunate enough, until today, to have never witnessed or encountered any negative experience with this. This morning, however, I called about a repeat prescription for my medication and unfortunately dealt with the a member of the reception team who was pretty ignorant and insensitive. As a future doctor, I’m quite good at staying calm and polite during difficult conversations so I was able to diffuse this situation. I just think, however, if this receptionist had been speaking to someone in a much more vulnerable position than myself then it could really affect a patients wellbeing. I would like to gently highlight that mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression can cause a lot of patients to self isolate and withdraw for any social interaction and therefore booking appointments over the phone can become more difficult when you have no desire to talk to someone. Not only this, but being a medical student I am on surgical placement at KingsMill hospital currently leaving the house at 6:30am and getting home at 6pm. Due to teaching and being in the operating theatre, there’s not always time to call the doctor especially when the queues are so long at lunchtime/ early morning (which are the only times I get a break). I totally empathise that receptionists have an important and very difficult role of acting as gatekeepers to primary care and advising patients to book appointments in advance to avoid long waiting lists. I also understand that they receive hundreds of calls a day, dealing with some very awkward people, and can be a little tired or frustrated sometimes. They’re only human after all. There is no excuse, however, to laugh at someone when asking to make an appointment, grill them about not booking an appointment sooner without asking why I had not (especially when I wasn’t demanding an appointment, I was quite happy to wait and just get an emergency prescription) and speak to someone as if they are a school child. Other members of reception have been friendly and polite so it’s disappointing that someone can let the whole team down, but I’d like to suggest that perhaps some training regarding dealing with patients with mental health problems and understanding the nature of their conditions is done. And a reminder that they set an example as the first point of call for the practice - customer service is vital to happy patients that return to the practice (which provides the practice with more money…)

The urgent appointment wait time is 2 weeks? What is going on. I have been put through for MRI scan as non urgent and now I can’t get an appointment. The receptionist is rude and shouted when I asked for urgent appointment. This isn’t acceptable

The doctors and nurses here are lovely, I have always felt supported by them but some of the receptionists here are absolutely appalling. I called recently about an ongoing problem and I was on the phone for about 5 minutes. During this call the receptionist was immediately rude and patronising and later on I was accused of lying about my condition. She then told me, 3 minutes in, that I had still not made her aware of my reason for calling for an appointment which was completely not true. I told her I had and repeated my reason for calling and then she hung up on me! Unfortunately I don’t know the name of the receptionist otherwise a formal complaint would have been made. I was shocked by the lack of care I had received and it doesn’t surprise me that the majority of other reviews have had similar experiences.

Had a travel appointment with Danielle Siberry and she went above and beyond in helping me. She spoke to several colleagues to find information when she wasn’t quite sure and even texted me to follow-up. Thank you Danielle for your help in getting ready for my travel.

Worst experience I ever had in my life Is it Normal that a doctor advises you to take a painkiller for 3 weeks without figuring out what is the cause of the pain? I had this pain for one year and I just wasted my time seeing doctors and none of them treats my case properly even when they found inflammation in my blood test ...Ultrasound test is expensive that's what I've been told this morning and that's why they keep giving me cheap solution painkiller I don t know why I've been forced to pay for Health Surcharge if they don't care about my pain
