Always a stunning place to visit ( though wellies recommended for almost all year round as a squelchy approach). My walk yesterday was no exception. There are numerous character trees on and around the hillfort ( a mighty Ash growing by the dry stone wall, several quirky lichen covered oak trees, some leaning beech and birch and hawthorn and Holly galore). It is a bit covered by bracken but there are still lots of little things to see and enjoy. Whortleberries grow amidst the rocks and crannies, dozens of species of lichen, primroses and gorse bring colour. The views across Dartmoor and west Devon are second to none. It is an easy climb once youve come through the squelch, and on a clear day exmoor is visible to the north east, about a dozen tors to the south west, Chagford, Drewsteignton Spreyton okehampton den Brook wind farm ( and the radar dish near to eaglescott) are all to be seen too. Yuu can look down the fingle valley, across towards Exeter, a clear view also of castle drogo. It is always bracing air also every time I visit the skies seem to be incredibly breathtaking ( I'm picky when I go mind you). Have seen several species of butterfly ( small Copper common blue large and small white red admiral and peacock) there. It is also a very good spot to see Dartmoor birds. There is parking for about 4 cars at the base of the Fort ( follow the lane from Easton Cross and wind to the top. It's a little triangle with the moved triangulation post.).

Iron age hill fort, similar to others nearby, with 360 views of the surrounding moors, woods, and towns. Castle Drogo is visible to the north. Just be aware that it's ocassionaly used for grazing sheep and cows. The nearby woods offer nice walks too, with Fingle Bridge and Inn just down the (steep!) hill from here.

Peaceful spot, you can walk on the ruin ramparts (the lumpy bits forming a vague circular wall) and look down at the ditch and imagine how much harder it would made it for the approaching assailants when it was froperly fortified. You do have to use imagination, its an ancient ruin or you can just take in the amazing view. If you are a historian (wish I was) I am sure you could enjoy it all the more.
