FAQ

What is the scope of services offered by your justice department?

We offer a range of services at Coventry Magistrates' Court, including dealing with criminal cases such as theft, assault, and traffic offenses. We also handle civil cases such as housing disputes and family law matters like divorce and child custody.

How experienced are your lawyers, and what are their areas of expertise?

Our magistrates are trained volunteers who sit in panels of three to hear cases and make judgments. We do not have lawyers on staff, but we do have court clerks and legal advisors who can provide information on court procedures and help with paperwork.

What is your track record in winning cases similar to mine?

As a court, we do not keep records of cases won or lost. Our role is to hear both sides of a case and make a fair and impartial decision based on the evidence presented.

How do you bill for your services, and what are the payment terms?

As a court, we do not bill for our services. However, if you are found guilty of a criminal offense, you may be ordered to pay a fine or court costs. If you are involved in a civil case, the losing side may be ordered to pay the other side's legal fees. Payment terms are typically set by the court at the time of sentencing or judgment.

Been trying to get through to the finance department for over an hour. Keep getting fobbed off with we can’t take your call phone back. How are people supposed to pay when you can’t even speak to someone. No wonder this court has a bad rep.

Staff are rude and degrade you - just because you are in a higher position doesn't make you any higher than me. We are all human. You should all be ashamed of yourselves.

Not at all a nice place, be sure when you visit to have to pay a fine or court charges or even be possible sent to prison for a maximum stay of up to 6 months.. lots of people attend here all Waiting a verdict of 3 possible nasty judges , you can’t really say anything to them so you really need a solicitor to speak for you . Only one star as I would not recommend this place to anyone but hey I suppose it’s better than crown court

Enquiring about a document certification, I found the staff are very helpful and pleasant to talk to. Even if you are not quite aware of the procedures you need to go through, they will provide excellent support. Not a busy place.
