  Hired them to move a piano from one room to another. Very high cost for what it was. Then proceeded to break the piano in the process including a snapped leg from improper lifting, broken keys, broken lid. What’s worse is that they made an attempt to fix the leg (20 mins work) and then charged me £85+VAT on the invoice. At no time did I think I’d be charged money for something they broke! Avoid!

  Last year my piano was pronounced dead by a very reputable music shop. The wrest plank was said to be cracked as was the sound board. It was deemed untunable and the action had seen its day. My beloved Bechstein upright Model V, a family heirloom which was given to my wife's grandmother for her 21st birthday in 1895, was destined for the scrap heap. However I was not ready to give up and entrusted my piano to David Hogben and his team at Courtney Pianos in Oxford who assured me that he would not let my piano be lost. Six months later it was back home and I am completely astonished at the result of the refurbishment. The sound is so beautiful and the action superb. My wife, who has known the piano all of her life, tells me it has never sounded better. As David forecast it is back to how it would have sounded when it left the factory in Berlin 127 years ago. I can't thank him enough and would unreservedly recommend him to anyone who wants to rescucitate their classic piano. As a bonus I was also loaned(free of charge) another Bechstein while mine was in the workshop.

  A superb restoration service from start to finish. Communication with this company is absolutely fantastic, in so far as an email sent, is replied to within 24 hours (by the owner of the company personally). The owner actually oversees the entire restoration project and takes onboard all of your particular requirements, and in doing so communicates them to his worldwide suppliers (who do not work on our own UK time frame, by any means !!). Please also be prepared for some 'flexibility' in the final end cost of restoration. This firm restored a heavily sun damaged 1970's W.Hoffmann Grand Piano, after I'd "won" it at auction, having seen the state it was in. However, it had all of the beautiful 'Chippendale' body case carvings on it's Walnut case, along with the beautiful matching 'Cabriole hand carved legs'. Needless to say, despite her 'sun damage' she was still an absolute beauty !! This company will not over promise their end result. Every step of the way is taken carefully and cautiously, so be prepared to be patient with no pressing end date to layer stress - at your end or theirs !! I think the pictures attached speak for themselves, in so far as the capabilities of this piano restoration firm. Just don't expect a 'rush job' !! I think this is a fair request, given the fine pieces of musical furniture/instruments they're restoring for you. If anybody wants to reply, please feel free and I will happily supply further restored beautiful photos or previous photos, in the state I 'won' her in , whilst under auction, for "before & after" services. to this company.

  Courtney pianos restored our 1896 Irmler piano to perfection. A first class restoration. It went away looking grubby, dirty and broken and came back sparkling. The French polish job was particularly good. Very happy indeed.

  We are delighted with the superb restoration of my granny;s Strohmenger upright piano by the brilliant team at Courtney pianos. Although it is at least 100 years old , the beautiful tone is restored and the cabinetwork stripped and repolished to even better than the original. It really is a work of art. Thank you.

  Courtney Pianos have been most helpful both in the careful restoration of a Lenz-Neumann grand piano and also the selection and supply of a Pleyel piano, which had to be delivered and set up in a Cornwall property.   We contacted Courtney Pianos for advice on our daughter's baby grand piano that had been damaged by water. We thought that it would not be worth restoring. How wrong we were. David and his team inspect the piano, collected it and started work. We now have a beautifully restored piano that plays perfectly.   Thank you for the wonderful work you have done on the 1892 Bechstein Grand V piano. I very much enjoyed every step of the journey from buying an upright Welmar from Courtney Pianos in the early nineties to taking delivery of this super instrument with its great potential on our 35th wedding anniversary early October 2020, nearly thirty years later. You have all been most helpful, from the pre-purchase stage - when you took full notice of my requirements - to choosing and restoring the grand piano. The whole process has been a joy with an excellent personal service and attention to the finest detail until the very last moment of both the delivery and the after-care.
