Rude and unprofessional staff. Care coordinators and the duty team are completely uneducated in mental illness. They can have a chat, that’s about it. But anyone can be paid to have a chat. With treatment, they do not treat people as individuals. Just a blanket diagnosis, and off you go. Nearly two year wait for psychology. Psychiatrists are, quite frankly, very patronising. If you have complex requirements, or if you are extremely knowledgeable about your illness and medications, they hate it. They hate the idea that you know more than them about your illness, so will do everything to belittle you. And prevent you from getting better. They put every barrier up possible if you suggest anything. It has to be on their terms. This isn’t how you treat mental illness, with no regard to how the patient feels. No medication follow ups, except every 4 months. Not good enough on new medication, if you can’t function. You are ignored. I could go on but you get the gist regarding this place. Atrocious. NHS money pit. If you’ve had private care in the past, because you had insurance with work for example, that’s a big black mark against your name to start with. Don’t even bother. But my private psychiatrist did tell me once that NHS psychiatrists are a bit ‘funny’.

I have suffered from depression for years and have been under coombewood all the time. I had been waiting to see a doctor to change my meds, the doctor has cancelled three appointments in a row at the last minute.not very good. My care coordinator Charlene french was so good she went above and beyond, to sort my meds and keep me safe.

I’ve been here a total of like 6 times in a space of a year. They don’t help, support or even bother with you. Never seen the actual doctor who was supposed to give my diagnosis. The “care team” don’t even remember appointments and the whole system is messed. Totally unethical how they are with you. They will assign you different things without even understanding what is going on with you. Leave you in the dark and mess and deteriorate my mental health more. Thanks coombewood

An absolutely atrocious place. To list my grievances with this hell hole would take a book that I one day plan on writing. I have been attending here for 7 years simply due to lack of anywhere else to go. The staff are rude, ignorant and completely without knowledge. Their solutions are simplistic at best and completely lacking at worst. I literally have nothing good to say about this place or any of the people working there. If you end up here feeling suicidal, the workers may well push you over the edge. The people that consider the staff at Coombewood "wonderful people" who treat their clients with respect and dignity... well I have no earthly idea what you are talking about. I actually cannot put into words how much I detest this place and the staff that work there. I have a history going back over 10 years with them. One day I might put it all in a book. I had my usual yearly meeting with the psychiatrist this week (its meant to be six months but Coombewood house has a great deal of trouble in keeping appointments). It was with yet another psychiatrist ( i hardly ever see the same one twice. Despite going there for ten years he admitted he had no notes on me. This is a step up from the last psychiatrist who mistook me for someone else (eat your heart out data protection). If I ever get the same staff twice or more, and if they can remember who I am from one year to the next I will be able to comment on their apparently amazing empathy. Until then I wouldn't care if the whole place blew up.

My son has been under the care of the team at Coombewood for many years since he was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia over 20 years ago. Sadly, he died suddenly this year when his heart failed. The team at Coombewood are amazing in their care, commitment and dedication to supporting their clients, and I have the highest regard for them. I held my son's P.O.A. and was his main carer: roles that were respected by the Coombewood team, who included me as part of his support network. They were always easy to talk with and could be relied upon to make contact swiftly if they were not immediately available. They work incredibly hard in difficult circumstances, especially as they are involved in the care and support of people who are so often dismissed within our society, and they continue even though many of their clients will never 'get better ' but require on going help throughout their lives. My son could not have been cared for better than by these remarkable people who gave him respect and treated him as a valued individual even when his psychosis and paranoia made his world such a difficult place for him to cope with. Coombewood clinic and the staff who work there go to great lengths and provide, not only an excellent standard of care, but also a safe place for those who find their world a frightening and confusing one. I only wish that more funding was available for Mental Health Care, especially considering their huge workload.

I understand critics. But I have been so unwell and I know if Coombewood staff hadn't helped me I would not be here. I have an incurable desease plus Depression and anxiety. I know that if I had nobody to help me or care about me I'd be well out of here by now.
