I had the worst experience I've ever had with an app, so for the first time in my life, I'll take some time to write a review. I've used this app to collect money for a birthday gift for a friend based in the UK, with participants from all over Europe. One thing that potential users should know is that the money can only (if ever) be collected if you have an official address in the UK or the US, an ID indicating that same address and a bank in the same country. The issues started when I wanted to withdraw the money. My account, which was previously verified (by giving, as other users have indicated, a worrying amount of personal information), became unverified due to one of the colleagues misunderstanding my e-mail where I was explaining that I'm currently based in another country in Europe. The support team then explained that my account would be verified manually. Through lengthy back-and-forth e-mails, I would get a notification saying my account was now verified, whilst still not being able to access it for weeks. Overall, for one month and a half, I've had to write over 20 e-mails and spend hours following up regarding the collection. I had to explain the situation from scratch to at least three different colleagues as there seemed to be a poor culture of checking the client's interaction history before responding, which necessitated sharing the same information repeatedly. At the end of this process, they informed me that I had two options as the tech team could not resolve the verification issue (although the same team had already verified it before they re-started the process): They would either refund all the money to the contributors or have someone else open another Collctiv account to transfer the money there- so ironically, despite being overwhelmingly dissatisfied with the app, I had to encourage other people involved to create an account so that we could retrieve the money back. Overall, the sum collected was not worth the hours spent with customer service; I would seriously discourage anyone from using the app if they would like a smooth organisation and a swift collection of money.

I recently used Collctiv to create a family pool for a March Madness competition and the app worked wonders in streamlining the whole process. Even when I ran into a little issue with withdrawing, their customer service team worked quickly to resolve my issue.

Was really worried about collecting quite a large sum of money for a present, but it was easy for people to use, easy to retrieve and best of all, reassuring humans on the end of the phone.

I had previously rated this service very highly and was keen to use it again when organising another collection. This time around I set up the pot, sent everyone the link, and only after realised they now charge a compulsory 50p charge per contribution. It says it’s optional but there is no way to remove it from the payment. This is so embarrassing for me to have to go back to everyone I’ve sent it to and explain. I completely get that you need to make money from this service but I wish you’d made it clear when I set up the pot that this change had been made. If there was the option for me to pay the fee instead of the contributors I would have definitely opted for that as I believe this is a well designed app which provides a much needed service. I just don’t appreciate the lack of transparency and will not be using again until such changes are made.

Collctiv have added a compulsory charge, which all contributors have to pay. This was done without advising existing customers, so we have set pots up, not realising that our friends and family would be hit with this compulsory charge, on top of their small charitable donation. The designers claim that 50p is a small fee….though it isn’t when everyone is only donating £5 or less. Donations to my charity collection dropped dramatically as a result and I will have to find another means of collecting payments. Such a shame, as some of us were actually making some voluntary contributions towards the app - now nobody want so use it, so nobody has won!

I love this app, it makes collecting money from people so much easier and saves having to faff about sharing bank details etc! I wouldn't use anything else for collecting money from now on, it's really handy if you're throwing in with others to buy a gift (mother's day is the most recent example of this), can send the pot to anyone and they can just pay into it. Its made life easier, one thing we all need a bit of in this day and age! Also, I had a query and had to contact the customer service team. Josh was amazing responded to me almost immediately and was super informative when I asked him questions. No robot customer service agents!

Positives: User-friendly platform. Negatives: In order to withdraw money, you need to verify the account providing Photo-ID (passport or driving license) and a utility bill, as part of the anti-money laundering policy. Surely, there should be a cut-off amount that this applies to as I only wanted to withdraw £130! This is a lot of very personal information for this amount of money. Also, when trying to withdraw money, it disappears from the account immediately but only reaches the selected bank account 2-3 business days later. Overall, not nearly as good as paypal money pool. Shame!
