Nice bit of Roman engineering in the park, the top bits are later additions but you get a sense of Eboracum.

Sited between Museum Gardens and St Leonard's Hospital, this fine example of an early 3rd century Roman tower stands proud, built by Emperor Servius. The smaller stones in the lower 6 metres of the tower are Roman, the upper half medieval. You can see cannonball damage to the structure, harking back to the English Civil War in the 17th century. The coffins on display are Roman. This is free to visit this site, well worth a look.

A well preserved Roman defensive tower and section of wall close to the entrance to the lovely Museum Gardens. There were originally eight towers guarding the ancient fort but only this one survived. The top half of the tower was added in the Middle Ages and you can still see the arrow slits used by medieval archers. There are other interesting old buildings and ruins to discover as you stroll around the gardens. Well worth a look!
