A wonderful 10 days! Beautiful resort with amazing staff. Really excellent food. Particular mention to Melanie and Jader for brilliant workouts and the staff at INDIGO (Angela and co!) for wonderful service. Thank you to Jaques and Pierre in kids club 4/5 and Mafalda and Rony in 6/7. We went on a brilliant boat trip to snorkel - thank you!

Had a great time at Valmorel Club Med. Easy ski in/ski out, great food and kids club is perfect. Only bad experience was being left at the train station in the dark with a child after arranging a transfer through them. When I complained I was told I'd cancelled the booking. No apology or any kind of offer to resolve the issue. It was a traumatic start to what turned out to be a great holiday.

The resort was good as expected, staffs are nice and attentive(except the one ignored us), but I think the travel arrangement has a lot of room for improvement. We bought the whole package including flights and transfers. We expected there would be Club Med staffs to guide us when we arrived at the airport. Surprisingly, there was no one and Clubmed counter. We were confused and helpless, after looking around for like 20 mins, we found that we were landed on terminal 2 and all Club Med staffs were at terminal 1, and terminal 2 is quite far away from terminal 1, about 7~8 minutes walk. This was our first time to Switzerland, we didn't even know there are 2 terminals. I think if there is a sign there to tell us to go to terminal 1, things would be a lot easier for us. Secondly, the transfer was not great as well. It was a small van for 7~8, and there were 6 people, not including the driver, 6 big baggages, 1 snowboard gear. I could not even be able to sit with my friend, he needed to sit besides the driver. It was crowded and incomfortable. Luckily it only took an hour to the resort. Next time if I choose a resort farther from airport, I would definitely not use the transfer provided by Clubmed. The worst part of the whole trip was that when we arrived the resort, we thought someone would came out to help us with our luggages. We waited 1 or 2 minutes, no one came to us so I and my friend took our baggages to enter the resort. When we were passing the entrance, finally a staff came out to greet us, but he just walked passed I and my friend to greet the people right after us and helped taking their baggages. We two felt like we were totally invisible. It was humiliating, I hope it was not because my friend and I are asian.

I recently spent a week at the ClubMed ski resort is Pragelato. It was expensive, at about £400 per person per night, and very poor value, overall the experience was rather more 'family-run, 3-star'. The general feeling was of a set-up that was ill-prepared, poorly-trained and over-whelmed which for a $1.5bn, multi-national company with many decades to get things right is woeful. The bar, for example, was typically under-staffed with a wait of up to 10 minutes to be served. Service itself was a lottery, clearly resulting from a lack of basic training: order a Negroni and have it made in 4 different ways ranging from Greta's 'chilled-glass, cocktail shaken, oranged rim, blood-orange slice etc' to 'measures splashed into a glass, ice-cube thrown in, glass thrown at you'. Naturally both leverage the low-rent, all-inclusive trick of known-brands on display but the 'gin' actually used is eg. some juniper-flavored, ethanol blended on an industrial estate somewhere outside Turin. The main restaurant, Piemonte, was typically overwhelmed, a crowd gathering a 6.45 ready for the 7pm opening and waits of up to an hour for those who didn't make the cut. It seemed a suprise to ClubMed that people at an all-inclusive might all want to eat at the resort, and that those with with kids (ie most of them at half-term) would want to eat early. Charitably, it can't have been a suprise on day 2 or 3... So why not open at 6.00 or 6.30, or enable some form of reservation, to avoid the unseemly scrum? ClubMed claim Piemonte, is where 'Italian and international cuisine rub shoulders for the delight of one and all'. Perhaps so, but it is also where coffee comes from a Nescafe machine and is served with powdered milk; where the fries come frozen in a plastic bag tipped into the deep-fat frier visible over the shoulder of the guy disconsolately flipping burgers; where the house wine is barely drinkable; and where you can queue behind Club Med staff members for the good stuff. That the two other restaurants were underwhelming didn't aid. La Trattoria restaurant apparently 'offers the best of Italian gastronomy' with a 'more than generous menu'. I went once and was presented a set menu: a single choice that started with some cold-cuts, was followed by a tasty but luke-warm steak, and ended with a forgettable tiramisu. I avoided La Tana after hearing reports from several other guests, so can't comment further. Similarly rooms were basic: poly-cotton sheets, hollow-fibre pillows and budget amenities a la Travelodge, but well heated, good water pressure and an espresso machine to jump start the day. Generally it seems ClubMed is in a muddle. It wants to be the sort of up-market all inclusive perfected by its competitors but can't escape the 'jolly gang of campers' vibe that is in its DNA. They seem to think their gangs of GOs are a selling point; enthusiasm and happy amatuerism possibly worked fine in the beach huts in the 1980s but a Butlins-type experience at Four Seasons prices is not a viable long-term model. ClubMed plans a huge expansion in 2024 and a drive up-market. If it can't find the humility to break hard with its past and to focus on consisent, professional, client-focused service then it's not going to work.
