It's worth passing by this site as you walk along the Thames. As you head to more popular sites, it is likely to be close to your path between areas. The plaque provides the needed background on the column to appreciate it as a piece of history.

I love Cleopatra so much 😍😍😍 and I learnt that we have Sphinx in Embankment in London😱😱😱 I did rush there and went to see the Bronze Sphinx, Cleopatra's needle and Cleopatra banks🏃🏃🏃😁Ahhh Cleopatra Ahhh😍she takes my breath away. By the way I believe that I am reincarnated now but before I had a past life in Ancient Egypt and I believe that I was Caesarion who was Cleopatra's first son from Julius Caesar👼🏼. I was so excited to see mini Cleopatra face and the Sphinx as well as Cleopatra's needle, it has been more than 2000 years passed since I have seen my past life mother Cleopatra. I can't express my feelings and I was over the moon. I didn't have to go to Today's Egypt to see the Sphinx. I am also planning to go and visit Egypt soon. The right time is coming for me. I am proud of my past, now and future. I came back to finish off what I couldn't. Program 1 is in progress, borderless world order will be delivered. My darlings, I definitely recommend you go and see these precious sculptures in Embankment, you will not regret it. Magnificent Ra will be happy to see you all☺️👍💙💎💫✨👼🏼💫✨💙💎Thanks for reading my review, love you all and thanks for accepting me as crazy as I am🤣🤣🤣😘😘😘🙏🙏🙏

This beautiful relic now stands a shadow of itself, eroded to the point where it won't be long before the beautiful detail has been totally lost, much like it's counterpart in New York. Indeed, both "needles" now lack the sharp hieroglyphic carvings they bore for so long before being placed in polluted, soggy, industrialised centres. Unlike the New York obelisk in Central Park which goes into detail about the translation and context of the writing, this sad piece of history is adorned with little about the inscription and more about the "triumphant" gift, its transportation, and the poor souls who lost their lives just getting this here. This is a monument to empirical attitudes; a sad reminder of an era of cultural "superiority" and of a time where the need to collect archaeological trophies was more important than their heritage value. Perhaps it's too late to preserve these ancient treasures, but it does make one sad to think that this stood, preserved by the desert climate in Heliopolis (modern Cairo) and later Alexandria for so long, only to be gifted away to melt right here on the banks of the Thames. See both of them if you can, while they still resemble something of their original selves. I give this 5/5 to encourage you to seek it out.
