Authentic Chinese food, more Cantonese style like the crispy chicken and dim sum. Book and watch time, there's time limit when they are busy. Prices reasonable.

I think our mistake was coming here for dinner. It seems their dim sum is the reason to come here, and don't come here for dinner unless you like white people "Chinese" food. It is made for European tastes. We had heard good things about Royal China, and we came specifically for the lo mai gai, as very few places do this, and even fewer do it well. Sadly, nothing was very good. From everything we ordered, the lo Mai gai was the best thing, and even that wasn't great. She was very disappointed as she said it was far too dark brown and the taste was off. It was okay, but not like truly authentic lo mai gai. (Looked far darker irl than the photo.) The cold noodles was too sweet. Yes, it should have some hot and sweet, but it tasted unbalanced. There was hot chilli oil in it, but something was missing. It tasted simply like a mix of chilli oil and maple syrup. It can be a good dish but this one wasn't. The dish that made us question our choice of restaurant was the birds nest crispy beef. It was so bad. The "bird's nest" itself was soggy/chewy. The beef was like candy. Far, far too sweet and the beef was basically non-existent. It was like eating crispy strips of sweet&sour sauce. And not even a tasty authentic sweet sour sauce, but something from a Tesco bottle. That's when we looked around and didn't see a single other Chinese person eating there. It was all white tourists. That says it all. That is who they aim to please. Then came the chicken. It was ridiculous. It was just chicken tossed in generic curry sauce. Pretty sure we ordered black bean sauce, but even if this is meant to be their curried chicken dish, it was bad. Like, some store-bought Colman's mix. We could not eat most of it all and usually we take leftovers home, but we knew we weren't ever going to eat it. Even with the very expensive prices, we just couldn't do it. Tea was very good though thankfully. I never expect friendly service at Chinese restaurants, just efficient, and the servers here were that. They did their jobs and weren't unfriendly. Just very busy. Atmosphere is nicely decorated but I would hope so with the prices. Maybe the dim sum is when this place shines, but unfortunately for us, it clearly isn't their dinners.

Portions are generous and great to share. The quality is high. I recommend to try the Cantonese duck. The service was quick and the price average. A great choice if you're in Chinatown

Stick to the dumplings! Beef w/ cashews was fine and Lotus rice was just ok. Overall overpriced for the quality provided.
