Chris Johnson is the best vocal coach I've ever had and I've had many. I had chronic issues with phlegm and sore throat when singing - he fixed both. This has completely shifted my experience of recording from one that was stressful and draining because of the vocal issues to one that is now easeful and joyful. Chris has also helped me refine my technique so I can access my best and most natural tone over a wider range more immediately instead of after hours of warm up. He has been the key to my enjoying this process again and I can't be more grateful.

I wanted to book a lesson with Chris because I was feeling stuck when it came to my voice. I am a Vocal Coach and Singer/Songwriter and I’ve been following Chris & Steve’s Podcast ‘The Naked Vocalist’ for years. I was looking for someone to give me some more advanced techniques that could help resolve some of my vocal tension issues. I was hoping to travel down to London eventually to have a lesson in person. I had not really done online lessons before but as it was the start of lockdown it felt like it was something I would have to get used to for my own teaching anyway. I am SO glad I decided to go for it. Chris is an amazing teacher. He is very professional but also really friendly and easy to chat to. The lessons were comfortable from the start and I felt at ease as I explained my issues and he gave me ways to solve them. Chris’s knowledge and understanding of the voice is incredible. It’s been a few months now since our last lesson and the lasting impact has been great. I have found new avenues to explore with my students and I found new areas to explore within my own voice. Thank you Chris for all you do and continue to do. You’re an inspiration as a coach and I look forward to having more lessons with you in the future!

I had taken online lessons with Chris for just over a year. Using Zoom as an online platform was great, we rarely had any technical issues. As a vocal coach I found that all of my time and energy was being put into learning and developing my skills for my students so I initially got in touch with Chris as a bit of 'me time'. I wanted to rediscover my own voice. Chris helped me to change how I viewed my own voice. The biggest thing I took away from the session was how I could get huge return from my voice with virtually no effort or push. Under his guidance I was able to access a consistent tone and freedom in my voice. Chris has a great way of focusing in on a specific part of the voice and working it without overloading the singer with information or exercises. The sessions were always clear, productive and inspiring. His approach and knowledge has helped me no end in my own teaching and I am dying to get back to lessons with him ASAP! Would HIGHLY recommend!

A vocal scientist (thats my name for him)! I just had my first "manual voice therapy session" with Chris today! What an incredible guy and an expert in his field, not to mention he's super lovely and makes you feel at ease. I've never had a lesson like it! I've had a tough year vocally after overuse of my voice at gigs. After an ENT exam showed inflamed vocal folds, the doctor told me to go on vocal rest for two months and to take big pre-caution as to prevent further damage. Today, Chris heard me sing and listened while i explained what had been going on. After examining and massaging my throat, larynx and jaw (it's really relaxing, not to mind intriguing) Chris talked me through what was going on. I felt incredibly relaxed after the massage and he asked me to sing again. I kid you not, i sang so effortlessly and smooth without feeling any tension. He went through some techniques with me and recorded the whole thing and sent me a copy. I felt on cloud 9 coming out and very positive about going forward with maintaining better vocal health and technique. So happy i've found Chris, can't wait for another session! Go and see him and have no doubt - your in great hands! :)

Nobody listens like Chris. What makes him stand out from the other vocal coaches I have seen, is his attention to detail and how he really analyses your voice from a physical point of view, rather than just ask you to sing through the scales just because it's common practice. I feel like, for the first time, I am actually working on something I can improve. I am on a journey, rather than just bringing in a different song every time to nail it. He is making me understand how to use my instrument at the best of my capabilities, so that I can apply that skill on whatever I choose to work on. Honestly, it has changed my idea of "vocal coaching" for me. Every singer should see him at some point.

I'm a professional singer and singing teacher based in Yorkshire, I perform as a solo acoustic act and as part of a function band. I decided to have lessons with Chris after 2 years without any training, and I'm so glad I did- I made more progress in one lesson with Chris than any singing teacher I'd seen previously. After a couple of sessions my chest register had grown by almost an octave! I'm so pleased with the progress I have made under Chris' guidance. His understanding of how to maintain a professional singing voice is vital! I see Chris every 3-6 months and find that the exercises he provides me with helps maintain my voice for constant use teaching and performing.

I've been a professional singer for over 10 years, both as a live performer and as a recording artist/session singer. However after experiencing a lot of vocal fatigue in a relatively short time, I reached a point where I felt my voice could go further and that my technique warranted some investigation: it all stemmed from me wanting to record an album, but didn't feel like my voice was at it's peak. I discovered Chris from a recommendation from a fellow singer friend of mine on Facebook and have since had a regular lesson (about once a month) for the past 12 months. From the get go I noticed the series of warm ups and exercises have helped in creating a more reliable instrument- particularly helpful as I travel a lot with a one woman show and am contending with jet lag, air conditioning and rapidly changing environments. However, it has been over the past 3 sessions I have noticed a marked difference in the way I perform. there is less vocal fatigue, tension and improved awareness of my instrument. Chris really is meticulous in his approach and has been the only coach to improve upon and start to give me the awareness of my instrument, that I have so badly needed to improve. I am still only on the edges of what I can achieve, but without Chris's help I wouldn't have improved a nano.

I had a lesson with Chris yesterday (21/06/2018) and I thought he looked like he probably knew what he was doing, since I'd done some research - though I didn't expect him to (seemingly) at least quadruple my singing ability in 10 minutes. (That's not an exaggeration). So, if you're on this page, and you're looking for a vocal coach, this is the guy. He is a literal genius, every question in my session he answered, it made sense, and he was able to talk the talk and prove what he said with MY voice. I'm using these exercises he's given me, and from 1 hour of his time, my confidence has grown hugely. I'll definitely be going back.. maybe for life! Thinking about it, he might actually be a wizard...

Chris Johnson is a kick-ass vocal coach! I know this because I had a chance to work with him over the course of 10 days when I went to London. I myself am also a vocal coach and he has helped take my breathing and belt to the next level. I left London with a new understanding of how to shape my vowels and a host of different breathing exercises I was excited to share with my students. Chris also had some great tips for style and I felt like he believed in me and celebrated with me when I achieved something in his class. That inspires me to keep going and helped me to believe in myself as well. His energy, sense of humour and enthusiasm is contagious and really quite refreshing! He is non-judgmental, puts his students' needs first, and he helps by giving instructions that are clear and easy to follow. But most of all he knows how to listen with deep empathy and sensitivity. That in itself makes him a invaluable teacher in my opinion. FYI, He’s a big fan of Nando's chicken dinners, shallots and monkfish. How could you possibly go wrong with with such an incredibly cool and fun guy as your teacher??
