I've enjoyed several art courses at this lovely school including An Introduction to Oils, and Portraiture. I'm currently doing a 12 week drawing course with John Murphy Woodford. It's a really well structured series of lessons teaching different aspects of drawing. John is incredibly supportive but sets quite challenging tasks to get us to try out new ideas and develop our creativity. There's a great balance of theory and practical activities and we learn from other artists as well as from each other. I thoroughly recommend the school and this teacher.

The studio was very small, instructions for the class specified paper will be made available, but when I got there, I was charged 50p per sheet. Quite frankly...given the price of the course, that was both infuriating and pedantic. Facilities not that great, not many options for having lunch which are in close proximity. On the plus side, model was great and professional, minimal movement despite the extended poses (45 min). However... Despite some useful tips from Peter which he kindly offered upon my request, the tutoring was absolutely minimal. If I was just looking for a life drawing model session, I would have opted for Open Ealing Art studio which has excellent light, facilities, space, offers free snacks and drinks at break and quite frankly...is a fraction of the price. I was looking for a tutored lesson, I got little in return. As such, I am sorry, but personally, I shan't be returning. LE in response to comment from Chiswick art school. The studio is NOT large, it is a very narrow and long shed, unfinished and despite the skylight installed, still dark. Facilities are subpar and the bathroom is under key. And the instructor was Peter, not Nick. Also 2h of life drawing session costs 15 GBP with other schools. My review is based on my personal expectation and experience with your course, as such, please kindly respect it as such. And if you offer tea, please provide sugar and milk as well, not just boiled water and tea sachets. Thanks.

I joined Chiswick Art School's 12 week Beginners Art Course this summer and really enjoyed it. A great tutor (Sophie) and a really nice mix of fellow students all with differing skills and abilities. Additionally I've taken a Life Course (with Nick) which was challenging but hugely enjoyable and have signed up for some further courses this autumn. It has given me so much more creative confidence and I'd highly recommend anyone who wants to release or just explore their creative talents to give one of the school's many courses a try.

I’ve just done an all day life class with Nick Arch. Excellent!!!! Starting with quick 20 second poses we worked with charcoal getting progressively longer poses. Nick demonstrated different techniques for using charcoal, highlighting areas of strong contrast and using the negative space. We then covered the whole page in charcoal and, using a rubber and cloth rubbed off the highlighted and lighter areas. As poses got longer students could work in different mediums if they preferred and tuition was adapted accordingly. Really well taught and I learned a lot. Will definitely be using the techniques again. The life model was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this course

Peter is a brilliant tutor in oil painting, he makes the subject stimulating and thought provoking while being relaxed and very enjoyable. I look forward to further practice now instead of being daunted. Book it when you can.
