After managing well on two previous courses, we were told my son would need 1:1 because of his additional needs (much, much more expensive). I would have understood if there had been any difficulty at all, but previously no difficulties during the lessons. When I raised this, Simon was really quite rude and unpleasant. We thought we had found an exciting new hobby for autistic son, but no, we just acquired expensive new kit which is still sitting there unused. Blatant discrimination.

We brought our 8 year old for a 1 to 1, it was so comprehensive it was impressive. Complete beginner class couldn’t have hoped to be clearer and more welcoming. Not only was this a class for today, but Simon gave some tips on how to gently build strength using therabands for future benefit also. While it was a lot to take in, my son while being a bit overwhelmed with the amount to take in, was able to practise steady throttle control, and gently ride in a circle, learning a bit of balance, turning, and importantly control. To encourage my boy while retaining the ability to intervene when needed, Simon had a lead attached to the bike while my son managed to enjoy the sensation of riding a motorcycle for the first time! Absolutely brilliant day, hopefully the first of many visits and a lifelong love for the boy 💪🏼

Great first lesson with Simon who is a very patient and clear instructor. he very kindly let me ride and learn for a lot longer than I had booked and paid for so I could get the basics. Thank you for a great experience, I’m very excited to learn more.

If there was a zero-star option, I would have selected it. Simon Newell came across as pleasant at first, saying it was £225 for the 90-minute first lesson (this, he said, was the minimum a newbie would need), and we agreed to a certain date. But after confirming with him that I would take the slot he offered, he gave it to someone else. He didn't offer me a refund, but instead suggested I book an alternative slot. After five or more attempts to book a slot (he said had no availability), he finally offered me a slot this coming April, advising I could not have a refund if I had to cancel for any reason, although this is contrary to the CYR refund policy on their website. I declined the slot as I noticed that it was only for 75-minutes, not the 90 I'd paid for, and as he was denying me the right to cancel; so I requested a full refund. This was the only time I had declined a slot offered by him. Simon then accused me of not taking up any previously offered slots which was untrue; this was his first availability since the original lesson that I had booked in September last year, which he cancelled, not me. He advised that prices had increased, hence he had reduced the lesson duration. Simon then accused me of deliberately trying to manipulate the situation by saying I had paid for a slot that he'd already given to someone else. At that time, I didn't know he had done this which is why I paid in good faith. He said that my procrastination meant that I owed him £50 in admin fees. My point was that he had breached our contract (I was advised that, because he was no longer offering what I had originally paid for, this was in legal terms a beach of contract on his part), but Simon said that as he had given the slot to another, and said I'd paid of my own volition, and accused me of trying to hold the booking when the contract had been cancelled, he therefore he didn't need to refund me. My legal adviser warned me that unscrupulous people may suggest this, and if so, the onus of responsibility was on me to prove that we did have a contract. As the majority of our correspondence was on email, I was able to prove all his accusations were unfounded. Simon sent me a barrage of passive-aggressive emails and I had to repeatedly refute his misrepresentation of the truth by providing him with the facts backed up by evidence. He then sent me details of a completely unrelated historic court case in an attempt to convince me I was in the wrong. Finally, after communications had become far too protracted, I advised Simon that I felt the only option left to me was to pursue the matter through the small claims court, so asked him for his address for me to send the papers. It was only then that he refunded me. In my opinion, he gave the initial slot to someone else because realised that we would not be committing to book monthly slots thereafter (as I couldn't afford it at this time), so this lesson would be a one-off for now. I understand that he would have preferred it to be a precursor to us making a monthly commitment. But this does not excuse his unprofessional conduct, rudeness, and lies, in the hope that I would capitulate, and not pursue my refund. It was exhausting but I am glad I persisted As a result on my experience, I would advise others not to do business with Simon Newell/Chiltern Young Riders.

We visited today. Didn't take advantage of the 'young' riders element, as we are not young anymore. However, we had the guided tour off road experience, which was a fabulous day out! Chris (who looked after us all day) was amazing, the bikes were first rate, the kit was in great condition and there was plenty of it to go round. Three of us took part, and we would all recommend 100%. If you are considering booking with them, then just do it as you won't be disappointed... 🙂
