This has been a really confusing process. So many automated text messages asking to book appointments. Referred in October/November 2022 and initially offered appointments in Basingstoke and everywhere but Dorset. Had to call CHEC and it turned out they had appointments locally but they weren't displayed on their online booking system. Had first assessment appointment in Feb 2023 and then faced another barrage of text messages telling me to book a second appointment that I had already booked several weeks before. Arrived for my appointment with a consultant today. I've left my appointment with not a clue what is wrong with my eyes. My eyes are blurry and painful and it's hard to focus my vision. They just got me in, pushed a few glass things in my eyes, put drops in my eyes and told me they'd see me in 6 months. There is negligible patient care or communication. This is obviously a moneymaking exercise under contract from the NHS. I literally felt like a number on a conveyor. They've ticked a box, got me off the system and now they get paid. I just want to know what's wrong with my eyes. Why am I in pain? Why is my vision blurry? What can I do to get my vision back to normal? If you've been referred to CHEC, don't expect the kind of care you might be used to with the NHS. Make sure you go with a list of questions that you want answered because as soon as they've got you in the chair, they only seem interested in getting you out the door. This is an absolute bare minimum, no frills, in and out kind of appointment. Be prepared to lower your expectations.
