Would have had a longer wait if I opted to do my cataract operation at St Thomas' Hospital. The procedure went well. Had to go back three times after the operation as the pressure on the eye was way too high. The drops and tablets finally helped after 4 weeks when the pressure on the operated eye was as good as the right eye. However, I am surprised that they only assessed the eye ONLY once (a week after the operation). Thereafter, they only checked the pressure and told me to go to the optometrist to have it assessed in full with them. When I had my right eye done, the hospital had a full assessment and checked the pressure before sending me to the optometrist. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the one assessment done and multiple eye pressure checks will NOT result in me having to make a repeat visit. About the staff : They were friendly and efficient. The whole process did not take too long. My issue : When told to wait in the waiting room upstairs, I had asked if my husband could accompany me (for moral support) as my cataract was very advanced. Both times, at reception downstairs & upstairs, the staff response was : "Do you need help with translation"? Why do they think, just because I am of Asian ethnicity, they would presume I CANNOT understand the English language? Very presumptuous. I'd like to point out that some of the staff & the surgeon had a stronger accent than I have. I would ask you to refrain to assume that in the future & simply explain why someone, regardless of ethnicity or age to be denied moral support. On the morning of my surgery, there was a younger lady (not white) who's English was as good as mine but she had a young man waiting with her in the waiting room. It did NOT seem to me she had problems to walk or to do anything. Why the difference? My husband & I are annoyed with what was said to me - Making ASSUMPTIONS that someone is NOT able to understand a language & would need help with translation ONLY because I wanted moral support.

I have had my second eye done now and I am still amazed at the difference before and after. I had no idea how much the cataracts were impairing my vision. The staff at CHEC were lovely and reassured me all the way from the initial examination to the end of my treatment. The results are amazing. I still can't get over how fast each surgery was and the fact that there was no pain at all. Thank you CHEC for giving me my sight again. ❤️ Paul

I cannot recommend New Cross CHEC enough. I have had both eyes done now and could not be happier. It works like a well oiled machine and is extremely efficient. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

AVOID at all cost!! This is a private clinic that takes NHS referarrals, they are in it just for the money & don't actually care about the patient. They will tell you that they have a 100% satisfaction rate, this is an outright lie!!!

My mum had cataract removed and it was so mismanaged that my mum had an infection which then they didn’t gave us appointment to seen for treat for my mum. We had to go to moorfields eye hospital who then wrote a letter of complaint and how they neglected their duty of care..

Great staff when I went up stairs and staff put drops in to numb the eye then went in for surgery they didn't mention you will hear the machine saying what is happening which I found a bit unpleasant if I had know I would of asked to wear headphones but other then that experience was ok

Awful. Cancelled my appointment at the last minute because their Doctor didn't show up to work last week when I had taken time off and was on my way to their clinic. This week, they've tried to move the time at the last minute. No respect for their patients time.
