I recently stayed at the Charde Guest House in Birmingham with my family, opting for the garden hut accommodation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly lady who showed us to our garden hut and provided us with all the necessary information, including the WiFi details. Unfortunately, our experience at the guest house was far from satisfactory. One of the major issues we encountered was the overall state of disrepair of the property. It became apparent that many aspects of the hut were old and falling apart. This greatly affected our comfort and enjoyment during our stay. In particular, the bedsheets, pillows, covers, and duvet were stained and clearly unclean. It seemed as though they hadn't been changed or properly washed prior to our arrival. This lack of cleanliness was disappointing and made it difficult for us to relax and feel at ease. Moreover, we faced a disturbing incident in the toilet. Although it initially appeared clean, there was a persistent and unpleasant odor emanating from the area near the WC or commode pot. To our horror, while I was sitting on the WC, I leaned down to grab something and the entire fixture lifted up from one side. This revealed that it was not properly sealed or secured to the ground. Additionally, we noticed two small insects emerging from beneath it. This incident left us feeling deeply concerned about the safety of the facilities, particularly for the well-being of our family members. It is alarming to think that any of us could have potentially had an accident due to this faulty toilet arrangement. Considering the numerous issues we encountered, including the general lack of maintenance and safety concerns, we strongly believe that the Charde Guest House needs significant improvements before it can be considered a suitable accommodation option, especially for families with children. It is crucial that the property is thoroughly fixed and refurbished to ensure the safety and comfort of future guests. We sincerely hope that these issues are addressed promptly, as it would greatly enhance the overall experience of staying at Charde Guest House. Overall, our stay at Charde Guest House was marred by the subpar condition of the garden hut and its amenities. We were disappointed by the lack of cleanliness, the disrepair of the property, and the safety hazards we encountered. It is our sincere recommendation that potential guests consider alternative accommodations until these issues are properly resolved. Rooms: Unpleasant and stinky smell in around the toilet and the room.

The room was damp wallpaper peeling, dirt and mould everywhere in building. Only stayed a few hours for a sleep on way home from airport. It all looked very grubby. The man in charge was very polite. The breakfast convenient that we could help ourselves, but wouldn’t stay again. It was cheap but the smell was intoxicating

most of the other good reviews on here say "cheap & cheerful" and I can't disagree with that. we paid £55 for 1 night in a twin room on a busy weekend when even your budget Birmingham hotels like Travelodge and Ibis wanted more than double that, and I reckon we got good value for money. the room was no frills, but the beds were comfy and there were plenty of convenient wall sockets for charging electronic devices (better than every chain hotel I've ever stayed in where the sockets are always the opposite side of the room from your bed). it was warm too, much appreciated on a cold winter's night, and given the price I was happy they didn't cut corners on this despite crazy energy price rises! the main downside was the toilet / shower room. the only ventilation was one very dusty extractor fan that clearly wasn't doing enough, as the wallpaper on the shower room's ceiling had started to peel away and go mouldy. the flooring was starting to peel away at the corners too, and the toilet and sink didn't seem to be attached to the wall or floor properly. I wasn't too bothered by this but it would definitely stop me from staying more than one night here; it's not a room I'd want to take a full shower in. it'd be much better if they'd tiled the entire space and made it more of a wet room; the space is tiny so it surely couldn't cost that much in the long term, even for a budget guest house. breakfast being included was a major highlight, though, and really made me feel like I was getting value for money (I'd have had to pay an extra £10 or more to get breakfast for two people at a chain budget hotel). the breakfast room is a pleasant little space where you serve yourself with whatever you like. there's white & brown bread for you to make toast, a decent selection of jams, spreads & cereals, plenty of orange juice in the fridge, tea & coffee supplies (quality Yorkshire Tea was appreciated!), and even the facility to boil yourself some eggs if that's what you want in the morning. because it's self serve, you can get up as early or as late as you need to and still have breakfast; there's no arbitrary cut off time other than when you need to check out. the location was convenient for us; it's a 35-40min bus ride from the centre of Birmingham, or about 12-15min walk from Lea Hall train station, which has direct links to the airport, so there's plenty of ways for you to get about the city. if you drive, there's parking on site for you too. yes, it's under the flight path of Birmingham airport, but so is pretty much all of this side of the city so if that bothers you then maybe Birmingham is not for you! if I need to overnight in Birmingham again, this is definitely somewhere budget friendly I'd return to for a quick stay. but I wouldn't recommend staying here any longer than one night until the shower facilities have had the refurb they sorely need.
