I've been coming to Chang's Hapkido for around 12 years now and have found it a great way to keep fit, learn new skills and make new friends from a wide variety of backgrounds. There is a real positive vibe in the club and the instructor (or Sabhoumnim) has not only a natural gift for correcting techniques but endless patience and optimism in her students. Members are friendly and supportive and egos are left at the door. I would highly recommend checking out the club for a free trial.

Martial Arts is not just about physical fitness, being clever and efficient, it's also about a way of life. If you desire to combine your life energy with real physical skills, then Hapkido is definitely for you. I have been practicing for 3 years now - relax, focus, move like wind and you can conquer whatever is ahead of you - it may or may not lead you to the highest level of spirituality and fitness, it depends on how much effort you put in. The general (don't want to generalise) rule of thumb is 10000 hours, so prepare to spend that much time from white to red before entering the realm of black belts, where you have to go from white again. I have not started exercising until I was in my early 30s, people learn dancing in their 70s and if you watched the Paralympics, you know there is nothing one can't overcome. :) A taster class with Master Tammy Parlour may better your life - first start by seeing what she teaches about meditation (ki) and the physical / practical skills to deal with various situations. There are many martial arts classes in London, not easy to find one this central and accessible in Zone 1 and held at office friendly hours, Chang's Hapkido Academy is not simply a martial arts school - it is also a life school no matter what your story is :)

Both physically and mentally challenging. As well as learning practical self defense techniques you learn to challenge your greatest opponent in life...you! I started with a free trial 10 years ago and have been going ever since. Great club with a really positive vibe.

I have been training at this school for over 7 years (having previously trained in different styles of martial arts) and can easily say that if you are looking for a complete and traditional martial arts experience in London, then you don't need to look any further Chang's Hapkido Academy (CHA). The instruction quality is second-to-none. Master Parlour has over 30 years of experience and teaches a very complete syllabus that consists of throws, joint locks and manipulation, pressure points, kicks, punches, other arm strikes, sparring, forms and much more. She tailors her instruction to each student's abilities and experience. Whether you are completely new to martial arts, or have significant experience in another style, she teaches and creates an environment where you can grow and continually challenge yourself. The focus on the inner aspects of martial arts is also unique. Ki meditation and the hapkido principles that underpin the school allow students to obtain a deeper understanding of the martial arts, and this emphasis helps students obtain mental and leadership skills that can be applied to numerous daily situations outside of class. The students and the learning environment are also first-rate. There are students of all abilities and everyone is very encouraging to one another. This makes it a pleasure to come to class. There are classes throughout the week, so it is very easy to find a practice schedule that works for you. Finally, Grand Master Chang visits approximately three times per year to conduct grading and deliver seminars. These are remarkable sessions delivered by a legendary practitioner of the martial arts. I cannot recommend CHA highly enough!
