My mum had been going to this practice for over 25 years, she has recently had a brain injury and now has cognitive issues, we visited the dentist to have new teeth made and the old ones were lost at hospital. We arrived 5mins early for our appointment and seated ourselves, after 20mins I asked if the dentist was running late to which the dentist replied via intercom another ten minutes, so would be half an hour in total, another customer comes in running late and goes up before my mum leaving us in the waiting room, a whole hour goes by and we finally get in to my mums appointment, I complain to the dentist personally, and that if we had been told I would have taken my mum for a coffee instead of her sitting on a hard seat in a waiting room he replied and I quote “ if I’d known I would have told you !“ ( he obviously did as he’d seen someone else and didn’t care one bit) just to give you the idea of service you will revive here. If I could give no stars and leave this review I would, absolutely awful place!!!

I started having treatment about eighteen months ago and found the dentist to be good . I am on benefits due to metastatic cancer but have always paid for my dentistry . I was chatting to the dentist about my condition and we got onto the subject concerning paying for treatment due to me being on benefits . After a chat not knowing if I could or couldn't claim. I was informed that I may not have to pay. I brought in some paperwork to prove I am on supplemental benefits. Thanked the receptionist and thought that was an end to it . If i'd have known what was to happen I would have simply paid immediately as it was only a bill of £20.00. I then received a letter from the NHS asking for the money plus a £100 fine.Unbeknown to me I was not entitled to claim for my treatment. That was obviously my mistake. But the dentist should also have known what paperwork is required ! I did not have that paperwork. I contacted the NHS and after a few chats and phone calls they said that it sounds like a mistake and that if Carmelite sent an email confirming the error they would drop the fine . I then spoke to the receptionist at carmelite who then point blank refused to send an email giving the excuse that they don't have a secure email ! I rang the NHS and explained, they were amazed because they have this happen on occasion but nine times out of ten the dentist always emails and the fine is dropped . I paid the fine . I will not go back to Carmelite . I obviously would not recommend them .
