FAQ

What is the staff to cat ratio in your cattery?

At Calcutt Cattery, we maintain a staff to cat ratio of at least 1:10. This ensures that each cat receives individual attention and care from our trained staff.

What types of accommodations do you offer for cats?

We offer a range of accommodations for cats, including single and double chalets, as well as family-sized chalets for multiple cats from the same household. Each chalet is spacious, heated, and equipped with comfortable bedding and toys.

How often do cats receive playtime and exercise while in your care?

We provide playtime and exercise for cats twice a day in our secure outdoor play area. We also offer indoor playtime for cats who prefer to stay indoors. Our trained staff members engage with cats during playtime to ensure they receive adequate exercise and stimulation.

Are there any additional services, such as grooming or medical care, that you provide?

We offer grooming services for cats at an additional cost, which includes bathing, brushing, and nail trimming. We also have a veterinarian on call for any medical emergencies that may arise during a cat's stay with us.

What measures do you take to ensure the health and safety of the cats in your care?

We take several measures to ensure the health and safety of cats in our care, including daily health checks, regular cleaning and disinfecting of chalets and common areas, and strict adherence to vaccination requirements. We also have a quarantine area for cats who show signs of illness to prevent the spread of disease.

I thought I would share some details of my recent experience of this cattery. I have made in total 3 phone calls over the last couple of months enquiring about dates for my upcoming holiday and asking if I could come with my husband to look at the cattery before booking in my much loved cats. I spoke with one of the cattery helpers who said she was very much looking forward to seeing my cats and would ring back with a time for us to come and see the cattery. It seemed difficult for her to find a time for this due to arrivals and pick-ups but we settled on a time and she then immediately called back with instructions for gaining entry by phoning to get a code at a locked gate when we arrived. We duly arrived at the prescribed time and rang at the gate only to get an answerphone. We were shortly called back with an awkward silence instead of a welcoming voice saying 'do come in - we were expecting you', which is what I had been expecting. On finally entering the reception building round the back, we were greeted with, 'Is there a problem?!' in a most rude manner. The woman told us she was the owner and that she didn't think her cattery was suitable for our cats and she only liked 'nice' people coming to her cattery! I was totally taken off guard and under the circumstances by then had no intention of trusting my cats to her care. This woman obviously has zero interpersonal skills and it makes me wonder if she is always like this and manning the reception or whether there is someone else who is more welcoming (maybe the person I had spoken to on the phone) who had better personal skills than she had. We left the cattery without having made any inspection and got in our car to exit but found that we were locked in by electronic gates and had to make yet another call to request that the gates were opened so we could make our escape! I very quickly made an appointment with another cattery who were very welcoming and only too delighted to show us round and accommodate our cats. The whole experience I had with communications with Calcutt Cattery leaves a lot to be desired.

Being an anxious first time cattery user and feeling like I was abandoning my fur kids whilst I selfishly went away to enjoy myself without them, the staff at Calcutt Cattery put me at ease straight away. On my initial visit, all of the cats were relaxed and keen to have a fuss at the front of the runs, the pens were also clean, warm and secure with a view of a large aviary. The menu available was HUGE so do not worry if your cat is a picky eater.....they won't be! Plenty of snacks in-between meals too because we all come back from holiday heavier than we went.....your cats will do too! Pictures on Facebook keep you well informed if as an owner, you will, suffer from separation anxiety. Don't worry about your babies....they will have a great and a very safe time so you can relax and not worry about the neighbours forgetting to feed them or let them out unsupervised by mistake. In my experience, asking friends to help is great and cheap but will always leave you with that nagging concern. You have paid a lot of money to go away....remove that concern and pay just a tiny fraction more to ensure your precious ones are safe, well and looked after better than you will be.

Our cat Buck enjoyed a great stay at the cattery while we were away. He has been having a few health issues recently and is on medication but after a spell at Calcutt he came back to us looking/behaving much more like his old self.

We left our kittens basil and nutty here, prior to them arriving we had a situation with Nutty just coming out of surgery and she required a little bit more care due to her stitches, we couldn’t of found a more loving cattery that show passion and care towards there business and the furry guests that stay with them, a little bit out in the sticks but the distance is irrelevant with other factors considered. We will not be going elsewhere for the care of our cats. 10/10
