Excellent service from C# Music Tuition. The piano Christmas cards are such a clever idea and will be ideal for my piano pupils, with the added bonus that they are raising money for the Help Musicians Charity. So pleased I found them!

When I started learning with Claire I was a complete beginner in my 50s. I couldn't really read music and knew nothing of theory. When Claire asked me what I wanted to learn I said "Bohemian Rhapsody". Instead of laughing at me, she said "let's find a way to do that". She simplified it, took it slowly and taught me how to play the vocal tune and she played the rest, so it was a duet. I love the way Claire explaines things and brings in the psychology of learning in ways that suit an adult student. I've been a pupil of Claire's for over 10 years. I even carried on having lessons when I moved to West Sussex, via Skype and Zoom calls.

Our daughter learned from Claire since 2013 when she was 3 and half years old. We love how Suzuki method works compared with the Traditional method because you learn with your child together and it promotes enjoyment and fun learning to listen rather than gearing up for assessments and endless scales that can crush their enjoyment at a young age. This is after all how we learn language! We listen, then talk, then read and write :) Claire is really great with little children. As a tiny girl our daughter really warmed to Claire, who taught her how to listen and identify pitch and the correct terms to describe tempo using fun games. Then, as soon as she was ready, at about the age of 4 she started book one...We learned these first exercises and pieces with her and we could therefore help her as she practiced at home. Every year Claire runs a concert in which every child learns how to perform, which gave our daughter great confidence and also a reason to put in the practice! As her musicality progressed, Claire started teaching her how to sight read musical notation, and prepared her to sit the traditional theory exams all the while progressing in the Suzuki syllabus. All this has meant that our daughter’s musical attainment has captured very much the best of both worlds; the trained ears that can pick out and express dynamics, and memorize and play difficult pieces of music by ear, and also the ability to sight read longer pieces. Her confidence, her focus, her posture, her ability to stand up and perform in front of others, her discipline to practice, the relationship between practice and success, experience of public examinations... all these things and more our daughter has derived from Claire’s excellent tuition. We cannot thank Claire or endorse her enough! As a final word, Suzuki method requires your INVOLVEMENT as a parent. This is your chance to learn something WITH your child. We have loved being a part of our daughter’s early musical journey. It has sometimes felt like we got two or even three for the price of one!!!

Claire is a natural with children and she’s brilliant at motivating them. Our son started piano lessons with her when he was 4.5 years old and we think the Suzuki method suits him very well. Because of the way lessons are structured, it was easy for our boy to take Claire’s advise “you have to practice only on the days you eat” to the word. Listening to the course book CD is part of our daily routine and so it’s for him practicing his pieces. It’s a joy for us to see him so happy, so willing to play and so proud of his progresses! He’s now 6 years old and on Suzuki book 3. Claire was also able to introduce sight reading in an engaging and funny way. She understood how important it was for our boy to feel challenged and stimulated and tailored her lessons on his needs. She also organizes concerts throughout the year where children who are taking piano lessons are encouraged to play in front of their parents and friends. Everything is done in such a thoughtful and lovely way that all children feel involved and proud, no matter their abilities. This is a lovely way to celebrate everyone’s achievements and to boost their confidence. Claire is passionate about teaching music and we’d have no hesitation in recommending her!
