I just visited the Cádiz Memorial in Horse Guards Parade today! It's a really cool bronze cannon that the French used during the siege of Cádiz in the early 19th century. What's even more impressive is that the cannon is mounted on the back of a giant statue of Dante's monster Geryon, which has wings and two tails. The statue is meant to represent the Isle of Gades where Cádiz is located. I learned that the Spanish Nation presented the memorial to the Prince Regent as a way of saying thank you for his role in lifting the siege of Cádiz after the Duke of Wellington's victory at Salamanca. Overall, it was an awesome experience to see this piece of history up close. it is very easy to miss it if you just come to have a look at the guards.

The Cádiz Memorial is an early 19th-century mortar that was used by the French during their two year siege of Cadiz during the Napoleonic Wars. It was abandoned by the French after they were forced to retreat as a result of the Duke of Wellington's victory at the Battle of Salamanca. The cannon was recovered by the Spanish and later presented to the British. The weapon almost resembles a toy cannon owing to the fact that it has a short barrel (albeit large caliber), and that the barrel rests on a bronze Chinese style dragon. The dragon is elaborately carved, with highly detailed scales, teeth and claws. Worth seeing if visiting the Horse Guard Parade.
