I rented from Brown and Merry for one year and the company they use to manage their lettings (Sequence) is shocking. The check in to the apartment missed huge levels of dirt and grime. It also missed huge holes in the wall that had been filled but left rough. Large scuff marks weren’t mentioned, no meter readings at all and left property that I was not expecting to look after. I raised these concerns, (with pictures) at the time to Brown and Merry but was fobbed off with “the landlord is aware” I reported a broken light that Sequence didn’t bother to repair. I was left with an astronomical unpaid electricity bill, as well as bailiffs looking for the landlord. Neither Brown and Merry or Sequence were interested and told me to contact each other. When it came to leaving I left the flat in a far better state than I received it but the check out was completely different. It was measured on an entirely different standard. I emailed both immediately with the disparity but again, no comment or any acknowledgment of a problem. They are refusing to hand back my deposit and refusing to tell me if there is any dispute. I have complained and been fobbed off and ignored so far. I have put an official complaint into the deposit protection scheme. In short, both are unprofessional and have left me in the lurch. In 20 years of renting, I have never had such issues. Neither seems to care one bit and I’m preparing for small claims court. Avoid like the plague!
