worked here for 16 years on the weighbridge, you can take a guided tour through the mine which runs from the east leake site to bunny and i believe extends to certain parts of ruddington, the lower end of the site ( where the lorry parking area is ) was originally a pig farm and the bunny lane entrance was just a mud track up to that farm, there is a Lagoon on site which has crested newts in it ii believe along with other wildlife but this is closed off to the public and most staff but luckily we had the keys to the compound, it's like an oasis in the middle of all the noise, nice people who work there, some have been there since birth and will probably die there, the whole site is surrounded by a soil bund which is home to quite a few muntjac deer and millions of rabbits,, Bird watchers might like to know there is a couple of buzzards that are always hunting and can be seen regular and at least six or seven pairs of hawks that hunt close to the weighbridge on bunny lane,,you can get on a train at ruddington heritage center and it passes gypsum and stops at the side on rushcliffe halt, there are also loads of free running partridge and pheasants in the area. the place will improve once ceva logistics lose the logistics contact as they are quite lapse in there consideration for the local people..
