Tiny standalone ‘convenience store’ in the heart of a classic Birmingham housing estate on Roman Way; a stones throw from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. Owned by Bobby senior and frequently helped out by Mrs ‘Bobby’. Quite difficult parking there due to the various residential surrounding parking schemes around the shop. Then there’s some garages directly adjacent you could park or if you’re quick, park and shop then quickly go! There’s only ONE access road into Bobbys and that road ALWAYS has some form of traffic trying to access or leave the hospital so AVOID at rush hour particularly or you’ll be gone for a long time! The shop itself is ok but is not like most franchises as in, extremely well stocked. Has those old brown stockings and provides thick gloves and a box of dusty Christmas tinsel all year round - type of shop. There’s a giant photocopier in the corner, mix matched shelves of items; tobacco stand and an alcohol selection of course; large box freezer with minute selection of frozen goods and the compulsory cheap sweets for the chavvy estate yobs after smoking their spliffs. You do sometimes get a collection of drinkers congregating outside the bin outside the shop but I never stay long enough to get any hassle. I have heard of issues on the estate surrounding this shop, not IN it; just outside. His son has a letting agency and when visiting his dad; beautiful luxury cars be parked outside! All in all, probably one of the nearest shops to the hospital if walking, out of choice, I’d use Guraya News on Bantock Way, just off Malins road (1/4 mile away) for choice and stock availability.
