The Registrar that I spoke to in order to register my husband’s death was very kind and easy to talk to BUT the waiting room area itself was awful. People registering births were sat together with those registering deaths (did this include parents registering the death of a child I don’t know, I hope not?) I found it very upsetting. Very little thought or consideration for the bereaved seems to have gone into the place. I am disabled and live over 50 miles away from Birmingham but there didn’t appear to be any nearby parking which made access very difficult for me. Couldn’t the council have found somewhere more pleasant to site the office, particularly for weddings it was really grim. A few weeks after my visit I needed to speak to someone there but it was completely impossible to actually get through to a human being. After trying for sometime I realised the only way was by email but it took them 2 weeks to reply and only then after I had emailed them again.

Just want to put this out there as it can help someone. If you are planning to register a birth urgently. Then both Birmingham and Solihull councils are useless and they will not give you the right guidence nor any earlier date. I looked at the nearest councils like stratfordahire, dudley, cannock etc for the earliest available date then booked an appointment from another district. On the day of appointment council will take your details and take the declaration to be forward to BCC on the same day. BCC will then process the registration in 10 to 20 days. In my case, BCC initally gave me the registration date of 16th June, I followed the mentioned process and got the birth certificate on 20th April.

I've been contacting them for months for my marriage registry. I can't even speak to anyone over the phone because they never pick up ane it always goes to voicemail. I even went in to the registry office and there's been no response to my form either!
