I recently underwent training for my two day Inland Waterways Helmsman’s Certificate. I’m a complete novice to this area, and Richard’s friendly and affable style soon put me at ease. All areas of controlling a narrow boat were covered including use of the tiller, pre journey checks, knots and ropes, equipment checks, safety drills, simple manoeuvres, canal etiquette, use of the locks etc. It was really enjoyable and Richard really passed over his knowledge. I heartily recommend Birmingham and Midland Marine to anyone who wishes to do their IWHC.

This is a very good training centre. I wanted to learn about driving a narrow boat and I have found it fantastic. This is my second visit and has been worth every penny of the cost. Richard goes well beyond the basics, he trains for safety and uses his higher knowledge to give you a far greater depth in the subject.
