This may seem like a strange one to review but I’m hoping expectant mums (and dads) who are considering this place for the birth of their child(ren) will find this helpful. * The Serenity Midwifery-Led Birth Centre * This birthing centre situated at the Bham City Hospital is for pregnant women deemed ‘low risk’. The pre-natal services is woefully inadequate. Most of the staff are rude but sometimes you get the odd midwife, nurse or other staff who is kind, caring & professional. The reception/waiting area is small & not very comfortable or welcoming. It’s a very difficult time for expectant mums, you’d think some effort would be made to improve the facilities. Most days it’s incredibly busy and full to the brim, so finding a seat might be a bit of a challenge. There is a separate waiting area further down but this is for once you’ve passed the initial hurdle of getting booked in and your appointment is for scans. However, the Serenity Suite is completely different. Once you go in, a complete change occurs as if by magic! Staff are polite, courteous, warm, welcoming and generally very lovely. The environment (albeit a little dated now) is very clean and proper. And security is good, which is what you want. The midwives take good care during the whole process. There is the option for water birth and midwives are happy for you to give it a try even if you don’t go ahead with it. Some thing to bear in mind. Parking can be a bit of an issue. It’s a very busy place and the maternity centre doesn’t have its own parking.

The serenity part of city Hosptial is absolutely outstanding. My midwife Gemma was a huge help throughout my pregnancy and was there to deliver my baby. She supported me so much from start to finish and even came with me when I went into surgery. The level of care I received from Gemma and the other midwife’s in the serenity department was outstanding. When I was transferred to the maternity ward overnight the level of care did change. I did have some midwife’s who helped me with questions as a first time mum however when I was able to finally walk and I would ask for help at the office the staff would stand around chatting which made it slightly uncomfortable however my care from the serenity was incredible and I got to have my wishes of a water birth. Thank you to Gemma and team.

I would like to begin with that it's a discusting the fact that nurses decided to go on strikes recentely for more money and leave thousands patians without treatment, when they actually can not even speak to patients in polite manner. We all tax payers paying for NHS to be there when we need it. Trying to get an appointment with the hospital midwifery as been reference by GP, being at the 12 weeks pregnant , i had not any contacts at all with the meedwife, have no scan or test planned and each time receive absolutely discusting and rude attitude from the people at that hospital specially in emergency unit. I have been told that i will be seen in 10 week , that means i will be at 22 weeks pregnant, with all respect i will not need you then and lets meet at labour then !!!You guys should save life !!! It's embarrassing and disgusting for you ask for more money when you really do not deserve it for the attitude and service you are giving , shame on you !!!!
