Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending this highly anticipated baseball game between the Birmingham Metalheads and the newly established Birmingham Bats. As avid fans of the Birmingham Baseball Club, my wife and I make it a point to attend as many of their games as possible. Both the Metalheads and the Bats are aligned under the umbrella of the Birmingham Baseball Club and compete in the West Midlands Baseball League. The game took place at the Marston Green Recreation Ground, conveniently located just a mile away from Birmingham Airport and the M42. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of PurpleBricks Estate agency, the ground has been equipped with top-notch facilities, including extensive safety netting and an impressive batting cage. The attention to detail and high standard of the venue truly added to the overall experience. We arrived at the game approximately 20 minutes before the scheduled 11 am start time, armed with our portable chairs to ensure a comfortable viewing experience. The organizers of the event deserve commendation for offering free admission to spectators, and the availability of ample parking further enhanced the convenience for attendees. The atmosphere at the game was electric, especially given that it marked the first official league meeting between the Metalheads and the Bats. As rivals, both teams showcased their unwavering determination and gave their all on the field. The Metalheads, being the more experienced team, quickly gained the upper hand and established a lead early on. However, it wasn't until the 8th inning that the Bats managed to score their first couple of points, which brought some excitement to their fans. One standout player of the match was Rey Vicet Delis, a formidable member of the Metalheads. Rey's exceptional performance included three spectacular home runs, solidifying his reputation as the league's top home run hitter. His skill and precision on the field left a lasting impression on the spectators, including myself. Overall, the game provided a fantastic morning/afternoon of entertainment. Both the Metalheads and the Bats exemplified the spirit of amateur sport, showcasing their dedication and talent. The local derby between these two Birmingham-based teams was a thrilling experience, and I look forward to attending more games in the future to cheer on our beloved Birmingham Metalheads.
