We visited Bilsthorpe Heritage Museum and enjoyed our visit very much. We were warmly welcomed and shown round by a knowledgeable guide who covered all aspects of life in and around the pit. My husband who was an engineer was very interested in the machinery and ways in which coal was extracted and distributed. The highlight for me was the personal insight into social and political issues. It was a privilege to meet several ex miners who were justifiably proud to have brought the exhibition into being. We also met the wind beneath their wings … two warm, clearly capable miners’ wives. The contribution made by families involved in this dangerous essential work needs to be remembered. Thank you.

My family and I visited the museum on Sunday and was so pleased with the welcome we received from the volunteers. It was a lovely experience and brought the history of the pit to life. They even found my father’s record of the time he worked there in 1948-1951. Thank you.

We were met with the warmest welcome a hot drink. The visit needs at least two hours to do it justice. We decided to accept a guided tour, the gentleman full of stories and very knowledgeable. I was sent down memory lane triggered by artifacts from childhood memories. Its educational and fun not at all boring. The enthusiasm and passion of the guides their supporters allowed ms to feel a sense of community hard work to keep it open against the odds. Ive sent photographs to family and friends who loved to reminisce thanks to you all 😃
