A blast from the past from an ex-Better Sound (B/S) worker. Yes, I used to work in their former building near Covent Garden. In my 10 years there (sounds like a prison sentence 😂) I found the company to be reasonably well organised & the less crazy staff to be happy enough. Crazy? Who was crazy? Me, for one - 10 yrs in one place. Unheard of, but that was a good place for me. I was able to do many things caz of them. I helped out on many outside broadcasts & film productions. I did the London Jazz Festival for a few years & even got sent to Dublin for 'official' B/S assistance. My absolute favourite memories have to be with the fringe theatre work as an ASM, but also as techie for sound & lights in London theatres. I also did a lot of camerawork for those small events that London is so famous for. Although, the ENG work - no fond memories. Sorry, but ..... yeah, no need for further commenting on that. So, what has triggered this memory recall all of a sudden? Fawlty Towers of all things. Yep, watching the 1st episode & a familiar sound made me do a rewind. The conman Lord Melbury's briefcase with all his supposed valuables is opened up. The case - it's one of the old Micron black cases! Check it out - Fawlty Towers, A Touch of Class. To those still there - thumbs high. Hoping the best for you 👍🤓
