TOXIC ENVIRONMENT HEADS-UP! I'm a professional opera singer and I visit a great number of retirement villages and luxury care homes, as I enjoy seeing how the elderly residents react to good music, becoming alive with emotions and memories. My experience with Xenia, activities coordinator and - subsequently, and more worryingly - the home manager, Emma, has been very unpleasant. On my way to my first performance there, a traffic event blocked me at less than a mile away, on the other side of the river. And I sat there for an eye-watering 45 minutes. The way they handled it during this time was absolutely preposterous. First Xenia spoke to me in condescending, patronising tone, showing emotional immaturity, but I kept calm and explained that while I was sorry about it, there was nothing I could do, stuck in traffic, I couldn't leave my car anywhere, we were all literally blocked. I calmly explained that the situation was very uncomfortable, and I would keep them updated with any change. While I was sitting in the car, already thinking of complaining with the manager about the poor behaviour of this woman, I got another call from the manager, who had an even worse attitude, which immediately made me realise that there was a reason why the first person was allowed to work there. In fact, often this people are found in the same chain, and the toxicity starts at the top, otherwise wouldn't be tolerated. Emma was aggressive, showed no empathy, and dared to ask me to be "honest" with her and tell me where I really was and in how long I would have been there! I couldn't believe it. I repeated that I was close by, but I had no way to find out what was holding the queue, and that the ETA kept increasing. I asked to give my apologies to residents, but she went out saying I was guilty and unprofessional, they couldn't wait, we had to cancel. She too spoke in a patronising, superior tone, to which I had to halt her and put an end to the conversation. Never before I experienced such ego-boosting in what should be a caring environment. I was sad to find out that people of such calibre work in a place where people SHOULD know Grace and Compassion. I fear the whole "behind-the-curtain" environment in that place is toxic, and while surely affects the staff, I would only hope it doesn't fall back on the residents. It says a lot about who owns the place. I always enjoy bringing joy to the elderly with my singing, and in any other occasion I have offered to reschedule, but I will not have anything to do with Battersea Place ever again.

I was shocked to se any poor reviews of Batterse Place. My mother in law has lived there for 3-4 years. The building is beautifully designed and maintained. The staff are exceptional. Charming, helpful and kind. This is by no means cheap but it is faultlessly executed.
