We parked at the Church gate in Bartlow and followed the public path to the mounds. There was no parking at the other end. There is an information board behind the second mound, interesting to see there used to be more.

Visited Roman burial mounds today. I have lived in East Anglia for 15yrs but only came across the existence of these burial sites today after receiving a Book on Roman Site in UK as a Christmas present. So round up the dogs despite a wet day and arrived at Bartlow Church. Short walk later we came across a old railway cutting and immediately there were these three huge mounds. (Railway used to run between two of these mounds) I was astonished. Makes the Saxon mounds at Sutton Hoo look like Mole hills! The tallest (>40ft) is accessed by steep timber steps to the top. There were 7 mounds. 3 large in height remain with a further three smaller or reduced in height. Being inquisitive I looked around for where the soil must have come from. Nearby there is a track to a area to what looks like a quarry as the ground is a lot lower and appears to have been a excavation. Very interesting place.

An interesting find, informative boards to read up on the history of the place. Also wasn't very busy when I visited. There is signs saying 'climbing is illegal' But there are man made trails to the top, which I'd imagine would be quite dangerous in the winter and wet weather. I didn't spend a great deal of time here because it wasnt a big area to explore, but we'll worth the visit.
