My 5-y-o granddaughter Rebecca has been attending classes for about 8 weeks now, and simply loves it! The training varies tremendously - so far every week has been different. Four or five of the higher grades help run the classes, mainly with the warm-up routines and the easier parts of the training. Counting the Instructors, numbers are usually around the 20 mark for the Tiger Tots (17:30 to 18:00) and also for the Intermediate class which follows (18:00 to 19:00). The atmosphere is light-hearted but the discipline and respect for the higher grades and the Sensei is clearly defined. The training is first-class and great attention is paid to perfecting every move, especially in the katas. About 40 years ago, I practised Shotokan Karate (S.K.I.) in Kettering but had to give it up when I moved away after about a year's training. I am 66-y-o now and have Parkinson's Disease, but after talking to the Sensei, Amanda Veitch, decided to try a session (Adults: 19:00 to 20:00) because I believe exercise helps alleviate some of the worst effects of PD! The Sensei couldn't have been more helpful and attentive and gave me 1-on-1 training, which is fantastic! After only one session, I feel as if I have already made great progress and my PD behaved itself! I have only praise and respect for Amanda and the other Instructors who all give of their time voluntarily and for free!
