Terrible service went into enquirer about the there 15 minutes service, the staff member said ok I went to get my bike stood there for 10 minutes another customer only had pedals to purchase, so I let him go in front of me, he got served the staff member went to the back of the shop another member staff was walking around, I waited to be served totally ignored me, I honestly waited about 20 minutes totally being ignored, don’t worry plenty of other bike shops around, and obviously when I’m going to be buying 2k+ definitely won’t be from Balfes bikes.

Where to start. I bought a road bike and some wheels on a bike to work scheme, and I'm very happy with the service recieved. Mitchell and the store manager were super helpful about the range of bikes and options, and I changed my choice last minute as a result of their advice. The wheels had an issue with the rim tape, which they remedied quickly and even added sealant for me. Which was a nice surprise. Up until now I hadn't found a local bike shop that were proficient, so I'm happy I bought from Balfes.

Took my bike in on a Sunday for a basic service, change of handlebars and new bar tape. Was quoted £120 for the labour and told I could pick it up the following Friday before the long weekend. Seemed odd that it would take 5 days for the work but I was fine with it. Called mid week to check everything was ok and was told I could pick the bike up Thursday but it was actually going to cost £180 because they'd misquoted when I dropped it off. Ok, I accepted that. Heard nothing Thursday, called on Friday and now the story changed - they'd need to order in a brake hose so it wouldn't be ready til Monday, meaning I couldn't ride on the long weekend. I asked if they've done any work to the bike and they said no, so presumably if the bike needed a new brake hose they should have known when they first looked at it. I called again today to say I'd just like to pick the bike up and get the work done elsewhere. The guy on the phone said the actual problem was that their mechanic hadn't come to work but he could get the work done by Sunday afternoon although "nothing was guaranteed". For a simple bit of work on a very standard road bike, this is way more trouble than it's worth. Will pick up my bike tomorrow and take it to a shop that's hopefully more reliable. Won't be returning.
