I haven't been here before, so I canly think that the Bacon Arms were having a bad day. I was part of a corporate group, and it's disappointing to report that although their service was good, unfortunately, the meals weren't up to standard. Undercooked chips, no sauce that was supposed to accompany a steak meal, and they had completely forgotten my meal, and when I eventually got it, it had clearly been rushed and subsequently spoilt. The front-of-house frequently apologised, and you could see he was struggling. We all felt for him. His service was more of a 4*, but I felt I couldn'tscore more than I have for the overall experience. I'm assuming this is a one-off, but it was certainly poor on this occasion.

We visited the Bacon Arms over the long weekend and spent a relaxing afternoon sitting in the sunny beer garden. The new owners Matt and Maria were really lovely and welcoming. It truly feels like one of Newbury's hidden gems. We'll be going back.🌞😎

The spacious and welcoming Bacon Arms is well worth a visit. New landlords are bringing in some great cask ales (a favourite was the Gravity 3.4%), while the Shipyard is also very good, with a decent low alcohol version available in bottles (0.5%). The new menu is extensive, and looks good (though we didn’t have time to eat), while friendly staff help foster a nice atmosphere to the place. We will be back.
