I had a negative experience with an interview i had with this training provider in 2020. Even though this happened a while i go, I didn't realise until the interview was over and after doing my own research, that I was shown disability discrimination at my interview. In no way am I writing this to attack this training provider, but I thought that the person who interviewed me (Jerome) needs to have some sort of anti-discriminatory training in the workplace to avoid this happening to someone else, hence why i'm only writing about this now. In my application via find an apprenticeship's website, i asked for reasonable adjustments to be made at my interview due to the fact I have a stammer which sometimes may worsen under pressure. I remember stating that i would require extra patience to allow for me to say my responses, (i also have the application still viewable on the gov website.) I was interviewed by Jerome, to which I felt that he showed no consideration to my reasonable adjustment on my application as It seemed as though he didnt know about my stammer until the interview despite me enclosing of it in my application. And when asked about my weaknesses for the role, asks me inappropriate questions such as how am I going to do my job, or saying my stammer could be a weakness, basicially asking me about my ability to be able to perform the job with my stammer! He then went on to ask more about my stammer which made me feel uncomfortable as if my speech impairment was the subject of the intervew. The whole interview caught me off guard which threw off my stammer even more so to the point where It worsened enough that I couldnt even finsh the interview. I also noticed that he kept looking at the clock behind me and I Just felt the interviewer was in a rush which in combination with the discrimatory questions he asked me, made me not feel that I was given the same equal chance to do my best or well in the interview in comparison to other candidates. Overall, i'm content now because I'm now doing a completly different job that I attained elsewhere, and don't mind that I didnt get this job as a Teaching Assistant, but was really affected by how the interview was carried out as it affected other future interviews that I went for. Please eduate your staff to be Disability Confident as no one should have to feel incompetant of a job in an interview because they have a disabilty.
