You will not find more knowledgeable and passionate reclaimed timber champions than Deb and Janine at Ashwells. I felt secure that the material and advice I was given would hold true, and so far that is what we have experienced with the timber we have installed in a roof terrace and planter project. We are living in a time of planetary crisis, so reusing the material that is already available to us in the construction industry is absolutely key.

Review of grade 2 reclaimed railway sleepers At first we thought the knowledge of product was good by 1 employee. When it was collected it was NOT at all as described. I wanted reclaimed sleepers, not wood that was so far deteriorated it would disintegrate when collected and unsuitable for any use. I was told I would have 1 good side and one good face, this actually only means part (some only 1ft of 2.6m) not a full length. Meaning 3/4’s of a sleeper would be brittle and crumbling despite (allegedly) being grade 2 hardwood. We wanted grade 1 (as another member of staff without knowledge had advised grade 1 £30 each was available - wrongly) but was then told only grade 2. The sleepers we received varied beyond compare and some would be ungraded and unusable. other suppliers (genuine) retailers of this product sort them into grades. After collecting and returning I was refunded but told I should be charged labour for returning poor items to the yard. I would not recommend this product by this supplier at any cost. I have since sourced genuine hardwood sleepers that are fit for purpose. I removed dead trees from my garden that were untreated and stronger that the product supplied by this company. I would not return to this company or give any stars but do not want anyone else to have my waste of time experience so had to give one star to share this
