I've just finished the Drawing and Painting Course run by Art Courses Birmingham and it has been an absolute delight. Peter, "The Artist", and a lovely man, introduced us to a range of drawing and painting media and skills, teaching us to see artistically and to enjoy the process of learning across the twelve weeks. He creates such a positive and encouraging environment and supplies all the equipment you'll need other than paper (which you take home with your artwork on, obviously). I had so much fun doing this and have already signed up to do the life drawing class he runs - starting next month!

My Zoom Courses with Peter Tinkler has given me an exciting entry into the joy of oil painting. His enthusiastic yet sensitive approach gives unrivalled guidance and support that always makes me wish to continue painting after the lessons. I highly recommend these classes, and you can also partake if away from home, as all lessons and critiques are recorded for replay. (Vivian )

When I joined the group this year (2022) I didn't know what to expect as I had never done life drawing before. Let's just say, I've just booked the same course for the third time because I can't get enough! This is now part of my weekly routine. It's definitely worth it! Peter is a great teacher, I can definitely see improvement (see pictures), and not only that...it's so much fun! If you are looking for an activity to meet people, disconnect from work/studies and develop your skills, this is the right place! Plus we have tea and biscuits ... 100% recommend

Peter is a superb teacher, he treats everyone the same, no matter what their ability is. I've just completed the intro into oil painting course, it was an amazing course, the amount I learnt was absolutely staggering. Peter always finds good things to say about your artwork, then suggests ways to improve. He is very generous and kind, always willing to help his students progress. Peter is inspiring and nurtures students to develop their own style and always seems genuinely pleased and proud of his students work. The zoom format is so good, I was very apprehensive using it, but it suits an oil painting class so well. You can set up zoom so everyone can see you paint or like me I set up part of the room so I can pop back and be on camera, as I'm eating my dinner when the course starts!! You can play back the classes, to rewatch bits you've not understood which is also handy if you miss a class. during the class you can ask Peter questions and WhatsApp your paintings to him. The other students were all absolutely lovely, there is a WhatsApp group for the course, I would have loved to meet everyone in person as well as Peter. This feedback is also a thanks to everyone on the course for making it so amazing. Peter does a brilliant feedback video, in which he prints out copies of the artwork that has been sent to him. He then always gives praise for what's good, then actually draws on the copies to give suggestions on how you could to improve. The feedback is so valuable as he sees the work in progress you can make changes as you go, it's especially important when getting composition right before going on to later stages. I loved the course so much, I've already signed up for the next semester. Thanks to Peter and the group for a great course. UPDATE: I've just finished the next semesters course and I actually enjoyed it even more that the first time, which i didn't think was possible! I now completely understand why students keep returning to this course, each time the course basic elements are the same still life, landscape, portrait and master copy, but Peter introduces fresh exciting exercises and challenges. In this way you develop your skills each semester. This semester Peter added in that you could go with a Halloween theme if you wished, which I loved as it meant that I could just enjoy being creative. I've always been told that you can tell how good an art teacher is from their students work. If you look at Facebook for art courses Birmingham you will see that all our work is completely different, showing that Peter fosters individuality and creativity as well as teaching oil painting skills. I've already signed up for next semester. Thanks Peter
