My son bought a bag of coffee for me but when I tried it in my coffee machine but all I got was slop. After a couple of trials I rung the shop for some advice. After a bit of chat I was asked to come back and they would look into it for me. I took it and came away with better coffee knowledge and a new bag of properly ground coffee for my machine. Excellent customer service and I will be going back!

Normally the Lower Petergate 200 Degrees coffee shop is my ‘go to’ coffee break when in York. The coffee is great and choice of cakes very good. Unfortunately, my visit yesterday wasn’t so good. At least 75% of the tables were taken up by laptop tapping students who didn’t seem to be drinking too much coffee!! During our stay - we were lucky and managed to squeeze onto a table with two ‘laptop tappers’ - I noticed several non-student groups walk out without ordering as there weren’t any tables available. I have to ask, what is the owner’s policy on students occupying most of the tables, whilst watching customers leave without ordering food and drinks? This isn’t great for business or for the reputation of the 200 Degree Coffee shop? I’m pretty sure that the students weren’t ordering a fresh drink every 30 minutes which must have been apparent to the baristas working behind the counter. Whilst I understand that it’s not good PR to ask someone to leave a cafe, losing business in this way is also not acceptable to the owners, who need to ‘police’ table occupancy better.
