Fantastic, sprawling waterpark & conservation area in a naturally beautiful location. Don't be put off by the 'reservoir' title, because although this is a functional, working water supply resource, it appears more like a natural lake surrounded by broad-leaved woodland. Birdwatchers, nature photographers, hikers, & mountain bikers (who bring their own kit), can enjoy a day out here for nowt. Those who want to hire cycles or watersports kit can do so from the numerous specific visitors' centres on-site. The terrain meandering around Alton Water Reservoir varies from narrow, twisty, tree-lined footpath, to hardpack cycle trails, & quiet tarmac roads, (such as the scenic crossing at Lemon's Hill Bridge). I know Suffolk well & regard Alton Water as one of its best attractions, so it seems strange that this resource isn't better promoted to tourists for all it's got to offer...
